I hate bugs. All I have to do is think about them and I get that creepy-crawly sensation like there's a giant
caterpillar doing a dance underneath my armpit. Ughhh... I hate 'em. To make matters worse, this episode was chock full
of beetles. Flesh-eating beetles. I didn't even know those things existed. For me, this is a horrible
realization.
After Mac and Stella find a body lying in a museum covered in the aforementioned beetles, the case is on to find the killer. The only witness is a little boy and he'd rather read his Samurai comic book instead of talk to the detectives. They should throw some beetles on him. Then he'd talk. Or cry... that's what I'd do.
First off, Grissom would have loved this case. Too bad he couldn't have guest-starred and helped out with the bugs. As far as that autopsy that Sid and Doc Hawkes performed. Did they really have to rinse away all the flesh just to find the dent in the woman's skull? That was one of the most graphic things I think a CSI: show has ever shown. And I mean like "channel surfing and stopping on TLC to watch five minutes of open-heart surgery" graphic.
And let's back up for a second here. Parsons is back! She hasn't been in an episode since the end of season one! I have no idea what made the writer's decide to bring her back but I support this 100%. I like having a good stable of minor characters. Now if they can just write Dr. Giles back in. Remember him? The forensic specialist in the wheelchair. He just disappeared after five or six episode in the first season. He was a great character.
I'm starting to wonder how this season is going end though. Are we going to get a solid cliffhanger? Miami and Vegas have been building up season-long plots but NY really hasn't done too much of that. I guess we'll have to see if anything develops in the last five (there may be six) episodes of the season.

Maybe the cliff hanger will be whether or not they come back for season 3?

CSI shows aren't really known for any cliffhangers. Sure, they have some two-parters during the season, but it's not common that they end a season with one.
I think, to date, CSI only had one during the 2/3rd season.
As for washing away the body (boiling) -- they have done this before on CSI a few times, and even on CSI Miami I think. I don't think it's just for dramatic production, I do think they do it for a reason.
Since this body was so badly mutilated by the beetles, it wasn't easy for them to identify the mortal wound... by getting rid of the (um) "distractions" -- they could clearly look at the skeleton to determine what broke/cracked/punctured what.
