Abdul: Almost fired?

US Weekly is
reporting that
American Idol judge Paula Abdul was
almost fired last month. Supposedly, there was a lot of tension on the set, in general and not just between her and
co-judge Simon Cowell. According to a source, Paula "was being very difficult...crying all the time...arriving
late for meetings." Supposedly (again), Abdul was treated for exhaustion and dehydration. Producers reportedly
were thinking about replacing her with either Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears (wow, that would have been stupid).
I don't understand what all the controversy is about. Watching Abdul, I think she looks normal, refreshed, and
has been completely coherent this season. *Cough*
Unless something drastic happens, Abdul will be forever
our girl. For this season anyway.

She is an embarrassment. She never has any insight into the performances nor offers any constructive criticism, only inane comments. It is long past time that she should go.

Are you kidding me with that commentary - She looks pale, slurs her words, cannot form a sentance, and like Charles wrote above, she has no constructive criticism - all she comments on is how pretty a girl looks and how much she likes the boys - She doesn't let Simon speak and she always appears to be drunk. It's time for Paula to go!!!

what do you think simon would have to say if britney spears or jessica simpson were a judge?

Maria, he was in fact kidding you with that commentary. *Cough* has become internet shorthand which is meant to imply that the preceeding, or following, statement is sarcasm. :D
That said, anyone have ideas for a replacement in the happy world where Paula gets the boot? My vote is for Deborah Gibson. She's interesting and, I think, a realistic possibility.

Paula does provide each contestant a positive outlook on their performance. It is probably nice to hear something good from her before Simon talks. I don't hate what she is saying. Clearly she is listening with her rose-colored headphones. What I object to is her not letting other judges (i.e. Simon) speak without interruption. If she did that, I wouldn't care what she looks like she is on. But her constantly arguing with him is annoying since his comments are more on target.

She has got to go! A squirrel could do a better job than what she does on there. Or, a monkey for that matter. Time for Miss Paula and her medicine bag to get the boot already.

You're all nuts! Paula is the balance on that show. If you haven't noticed they each have taken a role on the show. Paula's role is encourage and prepare the contestants from the wrath of Simon. Granted, Simon can be a bit rough but generally knows his s..t! It's Randy and his dog pound that need to go. He's barely familiar with Elvis, in the music industry, who isn't familiar with Elvis?!

I believe Paula will finish this season out, and that Idol has probably already starting looking for her replacement.
The show where she was dissing and laughing at the contestants was disgraceful,,,and she always looks doped up. She offers no constructive critcism, just loopy remarks I could make from the comfort of my home.
And what is with her style of clapping?? with both hand together,,,fingers spread,,,she looks ridiculous.
This season, Simon is the one who has risen above Paula and Randy,(with his yo-yo..listen dude..) I honestly turn the volumn down at times, because they are beginning to grate on my nerves.
I must add, that the talent this year is better than the other seasons.

Paula has been the ONLY person who provides "positive" comments A bit TOO Complimentary as it goes, yet it's fresher than Simon's Personal attacks- I'm sick of Simon's personal attacks on contestant's physical attributes.

I think Paula keeps the show interesting. Why take the fun out of the show? I think the show could become very boring without the three judges we have now.I don't want to see three stiff, and strictly business zombies sitting there giving dull feedback to the contestants....come on people....lighten up please! If she leaves, you will not like the replacement, and you will not have as much fun with all the bashings!Dull people are not fun people!

Wouldn't it be great if Simon staged an intervention on Paula during a live program?

I love the show abd Paula does have to go! She is on drugs or is drunk, she is a mess. They need to find someone who is smart abd can give better advice. Perhaps Cher

I HAVE AN IDEA.... WHY NOT REPLACE PAULA WITH J.J.
SHE IS EXTREMELY TALENTED AND IS FROM A TALENTED FAMILY. I'M SURE SHE WOULD BE AN ASSET TO THE SHOW, NOT TO MENTION WHAT SHE WOULD DO TO THE RATINGS. ( AND I AM REFERING TO MS. JACKSON. MS JANET JACKSON ) PAULA NEEDS TO GO. SHE IS LIKE A MOM AFRAID TO SHOW FAVORITISM. IS SHE NOT AWARE THIS IS A CONTEST...ONE NEEDS TO BE DECISIVE. SHE'S AN EMBARRASMENT. SHE GATS TO GO !!!!!!

I don't find Paula any more annoying than Randy.
He keeps using the same "ghettoisms" over and over without really saying anything.
Either it "rocked the dog pound".... or
"it wasn't good for me, dawg".

Cher would be excellent. I know she would not be afraid to say someone sucked if they really did. Plus, she woould also give them the constructive advice. Cher is not afraid to say what she thinks. AND, this is showbiz people......Paula doesn't need to coddle these people! She needs to tell them like it is. She never says anything bad about them...never. Hollywood is cut-throat and Simon is the only one that tells it like it is........Paula is not being a help, but, a hinderance IMO.
