A few weeks back, I talked a lot of crap about
contestants who blamed their poor Hollywood Week performances on being sick. Well, I take it all back. I'm sick with a
capital "ICK." I've OD'ed on NyQuil, and (unlike Paula) I think it would be wrong to slur my way through
evaluations that include references to moths and salads. So, I apologize in advance for the brief commentary and the
lackluster witicisms that are as stale as Ryan's running "Kevin is a stud muffin" gag.
Just like Elliott, I've never been a Fanilow, but...
I'm impressed with Manilow's professionalism. This guy really works hard with the contestants and I respect that. He could do the normal guest bit where he hears their performances, drops a few sound bytes, and then waves to the crowd. But he really helped them rearrange the songs. I'm impressed. But, does Manilow always wear a blazer? I've never seen casual Barry. When is it dress down day for easy-listening pop stars? And, how long are we going to go before it's revealed that Clay Aiken is Manilow's love child?
Mandisa- She was great, like always. But, I was more intrigued by the hug that Barry gave her. His arms were all over her. Barry likes 'em big.
Bucky- He's gone. Soooooo gone.
Paris- She sounded great tonight, but I was more into her outfit than her voice. I loved the finger wave too.
Chris- Wow! I didn't love the new arrangement of "Walk the Line", but I'm
impressed with the balls on this guy. He's on a totally different level than the other contestants. I think the
producers should have laid off the strobe light during his performance. It felt very Halloween House of Horror
circa junior high school, and it jacked up my dog's pacemaker. I had to change the batteries during the commercial
break. And, is Chris getting more handsome each week, or am I just falling in love with him?
Katharine- She sounded (and looked) very sexy and sultry tonight. If they ever make a Katharine McPhee wig, then I'm buying one. She's got great hair. But I just want to point out that it doesn't make sense to say you have McFever unless you spell it McPheever.
Taylor- I think he looked cute in his suit tonight. I know that it's not okay to wear white after Labor Day, but when are you allowed to start wearing white? 'Cause those white shoes were pretty cool. More grandpa in the Florida Keys-cool than hipster-cool, but still. It looked like he still had all his grey hairs this week, so hopefully it was all just a rumor. Until we know for sure, the Taylor Grey Hair Watch continues.
Lisa- That outfit sucked. It was cute for the mall, but not American Idol. That was a great song choice, but she didn't bring enough excitement and charisma during the live performance. She sounded better in rehearsal.
Kevin- Get your hand out of your pocket! I can't believe
I'm about to say this, but...I think he sounded okay this week. In fact, I think he sounded pretty good. It could just
be the NyQuil delirium speaking, or maybe I finally see what all those grandmas see. I actually found out this
week, from my dental hygienist, that a lot of the little girls who come into her office have the hots for Kevin.
I sorta feel sorry for these girls. All the boys in the world and they lust after Kevin? Do these
girls have low self-esteem? It makes me think that Kevin is someone you crush on when you think
that Harry Potter is out of your league.
Elliott- Not a good week for him. Very boring and very forgettable.
Kellie- She was great tonight. Way too much blush though, but an absolutely perfect performance. Minus the blush, she looked great, sounded great, and did an amazing job making full use of the stage. In fact, she was the first contestant to travel to the mini-stage behind the judges. She really matured tonight. Also, it was great that they didn't play-up the dumbness thing this week; although, they tried to bait her with the minx thing.
Ace- I like the return of Ace's trademark sexy come-hither look at the conclusion of his performance. As long as he does the come-hither, it's a good night for Ace.
My pick for elimination: Bucky
My pick for the "surprise" person in the bottom three: Elliott
My vote: I'm too sick and drugged-up to vote. I'd accidentally dial the wrong number, and INSERT WITTY JOKE HERE.

Actually, Ace was the first to goto the mini-stage behind the judges when he sing 'Do I Do'. Lay off the NyQuil and hope you feel better! :o)

While I thought Chris sounded quite good I do have to deduct some points for his almost note-for-note copy of Live's cover of I Walk The Line from their Best of CD. I'm not opposed to rocking some of these songs up but after doing the Chili Peppers version of a Stevie Wonder song last week and now the Live version of Johnny Cash, I'd like to see what he can do without a blueprint. That's kinda the point of the theme nights.

Guess I'm partial to Bucky cause he didn't seem so "polished" initially as Chris and Taylor. I do LOVE his voice--I'm not so sure he has made greats song choices--of course what can you do with Stevie Wonder and the 50's. I think he has a specific style (and if a person likes southern rock/blues) then I think they have his vote. I like Chris--but he seems already "professional"--I mean these are supposed to be amatuers, right? Why do some people get lights and smoke and the whole 9 yards? Whose decision is that? Just Curious...as far as Ace, I thought he was going to cry when he was in the bottom 3. Ace isn't even eye candy much any more--- he is one dimensional, shallow, same goofy looking pretty boy smile on this face and same little breathy Michael Jackson/George Michaels voice. Originally many people I know thought he was good looking--but there's no personality behind the looks--that runs dry after a while--I look for his popularity to lessen. Catherine is beautiful and to me has the best "pure" natural voice of the women--but she looks so uncomfortable on stage--like she doesn't know how to move or what to do with her hands--Paris just plain annoys me...so much for some of my opinions...

You were spot on with all of your comments. Nyquil must be good stuff. I was yelling at my television last night trying to get Kevin to take his hand out of his pocket. Poor thing, it looked like he was playing with himself!

You are right on about Kevin needing to keep his hand out of his pocket. Didn't anyone at "Stud-Muffin School" ever teach him that if you are going to put your hand in your pocket to leave your thumb out? This keeps you from looking like you are playing "pocket pool."
Over all, I thought the quality of the performances went way up last night, although it may have had more to do with the theme than anything.

"It makes me think that Kevin is someone you crush on when you think that Harry Potter is out of your league." Great line!
I really hope that Bucky goes this week. He is just awful and I think that it is getting more and more obvious that he is in another category from everyone else.
Chris gets my vote for the best. I loved that performance!

Kevin is ONLY in the running because the majority of voters that count... come from the NY city area. AOL ranks him lower I bet because AOL captures a more nationwide area. What time is A.I. on in Cali?

Didn't Ace use the stage behind the judges first? Don't give Kelly to much credit, her airheaded comments will only get her so far and looks aren't everything as we know from Becky O'Donohue. My pick for the bottom 3 tongiht. Elliot, Bucky, and Kevin. Hopefully Bucky will make it through one more week before Kevin. How did he get this far? I've never heard a song from any big star with a lisp that bad have you?

You are right Chris does get Hotter looking every week and I think he will be the one going all the way.
I don't know about any one else but I am getting so tired of Kelly's dumb blonde act that I want to barf. Is she really that dumb or is it a game to get everyone to notice her? It's getting annoying.

Last night I was thinking Chris was so creative coming up with such an original arrangement of "Walk the Line" and then I read that it was just a cover of the band Live's version. I still like him but Live Yuck what a lame band. He still sounded great, looked great and clearly has talent so I guess it's ok! Mandisa is awesome! She is a beautiful singer and a beautiful woman! I think Elliot's performance was excellent but it will be overlooked. Ace, Kevin, Lisa, Bucky and Kelly need to go!

Kevin wasn't that bad last night. Usually I feel sorry for him but last night I didn't so either he is getting better or I have stopped caring. I still think he should have been gone a long time ago.

[conspiracy theory]
Bucky was intentionally placed between two strong talents early in the show. Thus, knowing he's a weak talent, people would forget about him and he'd be voted off.
[/conspiracy]
And... Kevin put me to sleep. He needs to go more than Bucky.

I haven't really gotten to follow American Idol so much this year as I have the in the past, but when Kevin takes the stage I HAVE to watch. I love his voice. Plus he's kinda cute.True though, he did need to take his hand out of his pocket, but oh well things happen, right? I'm no Grandma, I'm actually a teenager, but Kevin is absolutely wonderful!! I don't have to be tripped up on NyQuil to see that! LOL! Hope you feel better!

Didn't Taylor dance on the stage behind the judges last night?
Anyway, Chris and Katharine were the stand out performances of the night.
I agree that Bucky was the weakest and Kevin was about as good as Kevin can get.
I completely agree that Kellie did a great job and will no doubt be recording country tunes when this show is over.
My picks for the bottom are Bucky, Paris and Lisa. I think that Kevin will get those votefortheworst groupie votes for probably another week or two.
Oh...I thought Mandisa looked absolutely lovely.

It's a real toss up between Chris and Katherine. Katherine commanded her song last night and looked beautiful but I really look forward to seeing what Chris will do and he just gets better and better. I vote for Chris because of the anticipation he brings to each performance - and doesn't disappoint. He is looking sexier too!
My vote for bottom three: Bucky, Kevin, Lisa -- and for Bucky to go.

One more thing... About producer conspiracies, I think that having the little girl introduce Ace, not once but twice, was a bit obvious. And I'm one who actually likes Ace and not just for his pretty face.
He needed more votes after last week and I'm sure that keeping him around for a few more weeks is what was in mind last night.

1. I'm tired of Chris doing covers of covers and the judges not knowing anything about it. He even said last week "Red Hot Chili Peppers" sang this song but none of the judges seemed to catch it. So this week he just leaves out the fact that his favorite band, "Live" covered Johnny Cash. I hope that was editing and not Chris trying to pass it off as his own arrangement.
2. They always put weak performers in between strong ones so you won't change the channel. They put what they think at two strong performers first and last, always. (At least strong in rehearsal that week.) Then they alternate so people won't leave. It's not to get someone voted off but to keep the ratings up. Bucky was weak, he sang better in front of Barry than he did America.
3. Good song choices. I don't know if they are getting help or not but last night was much better than former 50's nights. It seemed like some of these contestants actually tried to find songs that fit their style for a change.
4. I'm still a huge fan of Katharine. She sings effortlessly but please stop the giggles when being interviewed. Own that stage!!!

Did anyone else hear Chris's very flat notes and lyrics screw-up on the first 2 lines of "I Walk the Line." Fine to say he is on another level than the other contestants, but is he on the level with stadium rock stars..I think not.
Interesting choice of 50's songs....No Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Everly Bros., Bo Diddly....Which 50's era were they doing?...the 1850"s...."Teach Me Tonight," "Come Rain or Come Shine," and 'When I Fall in Love," were all written in the '30's-40's...Kellie and Mandisa nailed it...
