In April, TLC will air a new reality show based on a BBC special called
Honey, We're Killing the Kids!
The show will focus on the obesity epidemic as Dr. Lisa Hark, a nutrition expert, takes over an overweight and unhealthy family and tries to get them to change their eating habits and lifestyles. It seems like just the right show for TLC, but right now I think I'm more entertained by the ads for the show than the idea of the show itself. Firsts of all, the show's title is possibly the most morbid I've ever heard, but in the ads it takes on a whole new kind of weirdness when the voiceover starts talking about the show like it's some kind of wacky carnival attraction. I don't think I've ever seen the fear of a child's untimely death portrayed in such an upbeat manner. Maybe they should hire this voiceover guy to comfort people at funerals, since he seems rather amused by the thought of things not living anymore.

I saw this on the BBC earlier this year. Parents these days are so lenient, they let kids eat massive amounts of junk food, kids don't exercise (particularly as they get into the teen years), they watch TV and play video games that don't stimulate the mind. The show gives parents assignments (fresh food, exercise, stimulating and fun events) for the kids and the kids really do seem to respond. The Brit kids shown on the series could be a rather hard lot, screaming profanities at their parents, but after a bit they did sleep better, do better in school and in general behaved better. The only thing is, are the parents going to continue this regimine or will they get lazy 1 month, 6 months, or a year from when they started? Then what? The only bad bit is the aging photos of the kids if they didn't change their lifestyle looks silly instead of scary.

This show is not what you all think it is. They make every family out to be the same and believe me that is not true!!! This show is not reality, as we know it it is all about the ratings ratins rating, they can care less about the kids over eating. They are just here to make money and to get the best ratings!!! They made every family have the same problems, there was know exercise program, and they would have your kid join a dance class for the 3 weeks while they are there filming. They take mom and daughters and there pet dog go to obedience classes, what does that have to do with nutrition!! Can anyone answer that for me!! I did not think so. I feel this show is going to suck big time. This is not reality, rather it has been rehearsed repeatedly until the producer has it the way he wants it to look. Usually not good!!!! However, good for ratings. If some of the families on this show knew what they where in for in the begining they might not of done the show to begin with. This show is to help the children not make them look bad on TV, which that is exactly what it does! I don't feel it will change anyone some of the foods they have you prepare are foods I wouldn’t give to my worse enemy!!!

The show isn't just about the family's eating and exercize habits. It's also about improving their mental health. The activities the family does together serve as a bonding experience, which improves the children's social skills and self-discipline, both of which will help motivate the children to continue their good eating, exercise and social habits.
