Wow. And to think all we have left after tonight is a 90-minute season finale next week. I don't know about
you, but I'm really not looking forward to another long hiatus for this show. The thing is, I don't realize how much I
miss the show until the next season starts.Tonight, the look on Vic's face when he saw that Kavanaugh's ex-wife wanted him was perfect. It clearly said, "Oh, this is too good to be true." What I didn't see coming (snicker) was the ex-wife admitting to it in such graphic detail.
And wow...Gina Torres goes full-backside for us. Didn't see that coming, but someone call Mr. Skin, stat!
Lem puking up ulcers would be a good reason for him to consider a deal, though what more could he do without a badge
or pension later? A nightclub bouncer? Security detail? Retirement would be pretty far out of reach once he got out of
prison, with a big black mark on his record.
And I thought the last rat trap episode was tough to sit
through. A rat trap with teeth? Sounds more like a gorey hole than a glory hole. *rimshot*
So, I
guess Aceveda is playing Vic, which goes against what a lot of commenters said last week. It seems Vic could still make
Aceveda's life hell, though you'd think Aceveda would have a lot more against Kavanaugh than with Vic right now.
I must say that Claudette showed she's earned the right to be Captain, and in looking back at previous seasons,
she's always been the one who'd fill those shoes best. The thing that had bothered me in the past with her character is
how unnatural she looks in the field. I remember in one episode, she went on a call wearing heels and could barely make
it down a flight of stairs. At least now she'll mostly be behind a desk.
Julien's story comes back a
little bit, which as annoying as he is, it's good his story came back a bit this time and gave some depth to his
character.
As for that deal-gone-bad with Antwon... holy crap, why didn't Vic see that coming? It's clear
that saving Lem's arse clouded the rest of the Strike Team's judgment a bit. So, with things going bad in the brink
with Antwon, Lem is on the run for a bit in Mexico. Any way you slice it, Lem's either going into permanent hiding or
will be going to jail for a long time.
I'm not so sure Kavanaugh's going to get anywhere with Corinne,
though his attempt will most certainly piss Mackey off something incredible. Then Kavanaugh will be seeing a bit more
pee trickle onto his head from our friend Mackey -- you can bet on that.
Quote of the episode:
"That's more than an escort; it's a hooker and a hand job."
(I'd mention the "sweet
butter" quote, but that might be going too far, even for me.)

Claudette definitely deserves captain. She really is the spine of the show. The Strike Team is the body, but her competence is what allows you to see where the other cops stray from what a cop could be.
When I watch the Shield, I watch it on DVR to fast forward the commercials. The Shield does something that only The Wire manages to do to me. When I start hitting the 45 minute mark, I start dreading that the show has got to end. As the season draws nearer to a close, I begin hating that 45 minute mark more and more.
And that last sequence tonight? What can I say but wow. It managed to inspire anxiety, sadness, and surprise. It's almost amazing that they've got another episode to go! I hate to gush, but this show really is simply that good.

The Shield has had a strong go since it first started in 2002. Not many shows do what this one has. While most police dramas attempt to wrap up a storyline in a neat little package each week, The Shield writers go to great lengths to tie entire seasons together. So far, season five has incorporated storylines from all four seasons prior to this one. I don't recall ever watching a show that ties plots together so well. If you pay as much attention to the show as me, you'd know that the 5 seasons and nearly 5 years of this show take place over a time period of 2 and a half years. This has allowed the writers to create rich, full characters, and action packed plots every season.
If you aren't aware, the writers influence for the show comes from a true scandal in Los Angeles, CA. The Ramparts Scandal included a drug and gang task force known for their dirty deals, such as protecting rap stars Sugg Knight and Biggie Smalls. Look it up sometime, the way those police went down is very similar to The Shield, which makes me scared that this is the last season. Cross my fingers, and await the first ever 90 minute special.

#1, I do the same thing. I feel the same way. These shows (Monk, SG1, SGA, BSG, etc..) that give us 12 or 13 episodes is great and it SUCKS. You get all 13 in a row no reruns, but you have to wait 5 months for them to start over again.
They stated last week one more show before the season ender, I'm like where the hell did the time go. I just hoping that I'm still alive next week to see what happens.

I've watched te show since the beginning, I love the rewarding feeling you get watching episodes and understanding all the subtle tiebacks, character details and recurring plots, built up by episodes over the past five years.
This episode could not have been better! When Vic banged the ex-wife I was convinced this is my favorite episode. I doubt there will ever be a show with this mutch pure, raw drama in one episode.
Other shows I enjoy attempt multi-season continuing plots, Soprano's is a good example, but The Shield has really perfected this type of drama or form of television. The formula, when it's done properly, really makes you into a loyal viewer.
On a side note, a friend of mine works for a contractor that does projects for police departments so he spends time hangin out in actual police stations. He confirms my guess, real police officers are HUGE fans of the show, aditionally they love VIC and understand where he's coming from. In my mind, this really speaks to the authenticity of the show.
So sad it has to end but at least the writers saved their best work for last.

"There's no word on whether this is the last season for the show, but it is an extended one. Twenty-one episodes (the previous longest season was 15) are being shot in two sections, with a short hiatus in between."
Haven't read this anywhere else though.

I just started watching "The Shield" 2 season's ago. And, yeah, "WOW" is the exact description. I recorded all the reruns last summer to get caught up. I am not ready for this season to end. But I thought at the beginning of this season I heard this was it? Say it isn't so? I'm looking forward to season 10... extended seasons, ofcourse.

Over at Fresh Air on NPR they confirmed that there *will* be a further ten episodes in this series either later this year (around Autumn / Fall) or early next year but that's up to Fx. As far as a further series after that goes, Shawn is set to decide during the filming of these episodes (starting in April) whether he can tell great stories for a further series or whether he's just going to wrap it up in the next ten.
