And now for the review of The Apprentice, Episode 3. . . Donald Trump did not say anything about dating his daughter.
Now, on to your comments. Hm? I'm sorry, what did you say? That's not a review? You want me to critique the episode and comment on the good and bad? You want me to talk about Donald Trump's hair resembling a child of Cousin It from The Addams Family? Oh, okay, if you really want me to!
I came into this late. In fact, the episode I'm reviewing right now is the first I've watched. However, from what I see, there is a clear difference between teams Synergy and Gold Rush. Synergy has a diverse group of people who seem to have their heads on straight and are effective at completing a task. On the other hand, Gold Rush is full of neophytes who only care about themselves.
Case in point -- this week's challenge was to design a showcase for car dealership owners in order to highlight a new SUV model. Theresa, Gold Rush's Project Leader, decided to go with an "experience of class" that featured a horse & buggy, putting green, spokesmodels, and a comedian. You know, when I think of a horse pooping in front of beautiful spokesmodel I think of an "experience of class". No one on the team really cared for Theresa's idea and only did their share of the work. When they were asked to help out, a chorus of 'Not My Job' reigned supreme. Turns out the putting green was three holes in the ground, the comedian was vulgar, and the spokes-models knew as much about SUVs as, well, as I do about SUVs. Who was to blame? Everyone, except Theresa.
Meanwhile, Andrea and her Synergy team did a bang-up job with their showcase. With the theme of 'Nature Refined' the team organized an event featuring skeet shooting, rock-wall climbing and fly fishing. When a park official informed them that shooting clay targets out of the sky was frowned upon in the middle of a park, Synergy used their collective noodle and switched to golf cart racing, which the car dealer owners really enjoyed. In the end, the event was a huge success due to Andrea and her team -- and the fact that Brent, who screwed the pooch last week and caused two team members to be fired, was relegated to lining garbage cans.
It was no surprise that Synergy easily won the challenge, despite Theresa's cautious optimism. Their reward -- swim with the sharks at a nearby aquarium. Whoopee. It was a bit ironic to see Brent, who is an attorney, swim with the sharks. It was almost like a meeting at the law firm. Sharks? Attorneys? Get it?
Meanwhile, back at the boardroom, Theresa was blaming everyone on her team for the poor performance. It was Lenny's fault for not getting the electric generators. It was Tarek's and Bryce's fault for setting up the horrible putting green. However, when it came to blaming Charmaine for hiring the vulgar comedian she couldn't come to grips with it. Hmm. Sounds fishy. When the dust settled, Theresa called (big surprise) Lenny and Tarek in for the chopping of the head.
Theresa goes back into the boardroom with a new tactic -- she blames everyone else for the project's failure. Oh, wait, that's what she did before. Everything that happened was everyone else's fault, which is always a sign of a good leader. Carolyn gets a little ticked off with Theresa's denials and tells her, "Leadership. Let's be accountable." During the ongoing blame fest, Lenny, who may be this session's Omarosa, defended himself and Tarek mentioned that Theresa should be fired, not Lenny.
In another big surprise (a lot of them this episode), The Donald puts the failure squarely on Theresa's shoulders and lets her go. In addition, he gives Tarek a fairly stern warning to shape up "if you can". If there was one shining moment in all of this mud slinging it was the gracious way that Theresa, Lenny and Tarek wished each other good luck in their future endeavors.
Next week -- Brent Goes Wild!

Tarek said over and over we need a theme, and we should rent a putting green. Theresa didn't listen.
She should have been fired, plain and simple. Had she brought Charmaine in as well I think both would have been fired.
The task was such a failure I didn't see the PM leaving the boardroom to go back upstairs, no matter how good she argued.

Lenny's pretty annoying. Ever worked with somebody who'll look you right in the face and say "Hey, not my job, I don't care"? I would have fired him just for that. God help when he becomes project manager.

being a project manager at the best of times is a quit ticket off the show, but I think you've got to admite that Theresa was a complete disaster - not that she'd admit that, but of course none of them would admit that they were disasters. Lenny's an ass, at once blaming the two Jewish guys for not being there (for taking their religion more seriously than he does in other words) and then for not doing as much as he could have. Still not telling the comedian to work clean, and then paying her was a horrendous error.
Here's a hint for Synergy: if you want to get rid of Brent, don't have him doing busy work like setting out garbage cans, have him do something fairly high profile so that his inadequacies stick out like a sore thumb, then lose a close one where you can actually blame your loss on him. Or better yet, make him PM.
