This was, hands down, the best episode of the season so far.
The Strike Team was back to its old tricks, Kavanaugh turns more evil by the day, and now Aceveda's going to play right
in the middle of everything. Hell, I was even glad to see Claudette back, as it was pretty obvious where the show's
heading as far as her character goes.I think it's pretty clear that Billings yet another cop in the Barn who's dirty, but not exactly the same way as most
of the others. I'd say that Dutch definitely has him over a barrel, and his end as interim Chief could come at any
moment. Oh, I wish I could tell you the spoilers I know, but I'll spare you here.
Vic is pouring salt on
that open wound called Kavanaugh's sick ex-wife and rubbing it in with a dirty thumb. Every week, the interaction
between these two guys gets more and more intense, and though Kavanaugh knows how to hit where it hurts, Vic hits right
back.
You know, I'm not sure who's dirtier, Dutch or Billings. "I should probably keep those -- keep
those in a drawer for evidence." Uh huh. There's more than one way to kill a kitten, Dutch.
Speaking of
billings, is he really that dry with the jokes, or is he just that much of an idiot? "There's some chicken pot pies
in the quick meal." Um...ha ha?
Aceveda stepping up was a surprise, and now seeing him working Vic must
be the highlight of his life. So, who does Aceveda hate more: Vic or Kavanaugh? It certainly helps him in his Mayoral
race to put a dirty cop away, though would a convicted criminal cop's words have any weight on the election? Probably
not a whole lot, no matter how popular Vic is.
One thought I had was whether Dutch was setting Vic up with
that Canadian super pot case. That just didn't smell right, and Dutch knows full well that the last time he threw intel
Vic's way, he grabbed a whole lot of money train cash. It was as if Dutch practically put the money right in Vic's
pocket.
The scenes where Shane and Ronnie grabbed he aforementioned cash was the best. Seeing the Strike
Team resort back to their old cash stealing ways was a sight for sore eyes.
Quote of the episode: "You
never know -- blood is thicker than bong water."

Aceveda is just shy of a win-win here. Vic goes down, he likely ends up in prison with Antwon (regardless of what Kavanaugh said in this episode--at this point I think he'd literally stab Vic in the back if he could), Aceveda wins. Kavanaugh goes down, Vic leaves him alone and his link to Antwon goes unexposed, Aceveda wins. Or at least breaks even, anyway...
And Paula Garces...damn. That is all.

Has there been any more news about the lenght of this season? I thought 21 episodes were ordered and it was going to be a spilt season with more eps running later this year... but I haven't read anything new on that since December I think.

That's a great point about Dutch setting up Vic - that hadn't occurred to me but it would make for a great twist. It's a tribute to the show's writing that everyone seems to be screwing everyone else, yet no one has a clear-cut advantage that we're clued into. These episodes keep getting better every week, although I thought Vic's assertions to Aceveda that he could either "scorch the earth" or secure a mayoral appointment didn't have much to back them up. How exactly would Vic get him elected - mobilize the critically under-represented one-niner vote?
If this is truly the last season and if they REALLY want to bang that "conscience is a killer" drum hard, I hope they go for a true shock, one that would seal Vic's fate and guilt forever: kill off Lem.

Aceveda is a cop first, councilamn second. He doesnt like Kavanaugh any more than any other cop. Once a cop always a cop. And they all hate IAD.

The remaining ten episodes of S5 will air either later this year or in early 2007. The hiatus (and FX not calling it that, like Sci Fi does, is a misnomer) is at least partially due to Michael Chiklis going off and filming _Fantastic Four 2_...
And no, nobody's said one way or another if this is the final season.

As much as Aceveda hates Vic, Kavanaugh is his worst enemy. Does anyone not think Kavanaugh would gun for bringing down Aceveda after he took down Vic? Kavanaugh thinks he is the law. He's a Robespierre-esque character. Even worse, Aceveda can't trust that Mitchell won't keep his mouth shut about the prison job he pulled for Aceveda, when Kavanaugh keeps talking with him.
I can easily see Aceveda killing Kavanaugh. Now that would be an awesome plot twist.

Aceveda killing Kavanaugh? WOW! I have to admit that is a wild one. I bet he would do it in a "Vic style" way and not get caught.
Aceveda is a cop first but he is a polotician and being mayor is his biggest wet dream. Vic has a lot of power to stop this. Remember the cell phone? Where is it? Who knows if anyone downloaded those pictures and is still holding them? Plus this is TV and you know how they suddenly bring stuff into the story.
Why does everyone seem like they want to see Vic get killed in prison for what he did? OK, he did kill a cop... someone working for IAD... the most hated bunch out there. I must be the only one wanting Vic and the team to survive all this.

The order was for 21 episodes, but they've split them up into two "seasons." There's two more left his year, and the remaining 10 or 11 (I forget how many) will be shown starting in January of 2007. No one's said the show will be done after that, but the general feeling is that it will be.
