Oprah has a lot of money, but she recently
insisted in a speech to the Harvard Business School that money, as the old adage goes, can't buy happiness. I would add
that it can still buy you love, although I'm pretty sure that's still illegal in most states. The Chicago
Sun-Times has a funny piece on Oprah and how much money a real fan would have to slap down for her cable show,
print publications, XM radio channel, Oprah's Book Club books, and various items adorned with Oprah's
name. By its calculations, it would cost $572.86. The point, apparently, is that these items are quite expensive for
your average Oprah fan. I suppose that's true, but it's not as if Oprah is the only celebrity to venture into other
forms of media and lend her name to commercial products.Loving Oprah doesn't come cheap

Excuse me...it's oh so easy for people with lots of money to blow out that kind of garbage. Let Oprah lose all that money and we'll see how happy she is. It's like her always saying you don't need money to lose weight. Right Oprah...except it took a heck of alot of Money for YOU to lose weight!

Yes, Money can't buy happiness but sure can make our lives less stressfull, specially for those who struggle between not making enough money at work and provide to their children what they essently need, but Ophra, since she already has more money than she ever needed, could try to live up to her beautiful speeches about spitituality, love, life and make it easier on the price for those who cannot afford her high price tag.

Stop bashing Oprah. Ever since James Frey (and his publishers) conned us with his so-called memoir and Oprah called him on it, the press won't let up on her. She's a good person and gives to many great causes. Harvard can cough up the $$ to have her as a speaker. Leave Oprah alone! She's one of the good people!

Oprah is right up there with Bill & Melissa Gates & Bono...she gave $10million dollars to help build homes for Hurricane Katrina victims, has built schools for girls that in Africa and all proceeds from her 20th anniversary CD set is all going to Angel Network, another charity of hers. She DOES practice what she preaches, very well, thank you!

Some of us need to wake up and smell to whom and where our hard earned money are going to

It bothers me that we are such a nation of sheep that we need to have someone tell us what book to read.

Oprah is like everyone else she puts her pants on just like we do, but we can't let money be our guide. So many people are overly happy with little to hardly any money. The more you have the higher the greed and power (with some people). One day she's here the next she is gone... just like all the celebs. Next...

I have been on Oprah "watch" since I saw her in Color Purple. There is no one I admire and respect more today than Oprah and her powerful goals. She absolutely "Walks her Talk" and does it with a very down to earth attitude. Oprah is my hero.

I really like the Queen of talk Oprah and I would love to be in her shoes financially. I love myself much more though. I can love Oprah from a far without buying into all the hype. Really it cost me pennies to watch Oprah on TV and other celebrities and those bias news programs etc. The question here should be how much does it cost to LOVE yourself? I know for me and my family it is well over 30,000 a year.

Oprah is to some females as Rush Limbaugh is to conservatives. Women should not depend on Oprah to tell them what to read, buy or think. SHE IS JUST AN ACTRESS!

Money can buy happiness in many situations, but it can not guarantee happiness.
The rich man who scores the beautiful wife may be much happier because the money helped get the wife.
Someone who needs money to get a special operation will be ecstatic when the money has finally been raised.

I used to like Oprah, when she wasn't such a self-centered, ego maniac. Even her donations to charity are broadcasted for everyone to hear. Ever heard of an anonymous donation? Probably not if you have your own magazine with your picture (I once counted, 20 in one issue) plastered from page to page. And her idiotic no-talent friend, Gayle King. Must be nice to have a friend like Oprah trying to buy you a career. I think Oprah is a smart woman. But that's all the credit I'll give her. That doesn't change the fact that she thinks she's God now.

I am SOOOOO turned off by Oprah and all that she represents. I could not believe the arrogance it took to tear apart Frey on t.v. as if she is god almighty coming down from heaven to champion her following. There are so many more important issues and people out there no one seems to really address like our politicians, the war in Iraq and the general state of the world. I could care less about what everyone thinks of Frey. I think she abused her position of power and the more I see her, the less respect I have for her. And yeah...I agree with a few of you that there is no way in heck I would 'follow' a book recommendation from her or anyone else unless it is someone I respect and that is usually a peer from my own 'world'. I think the richer you become, the more out of touch you also become due to your money and lifestyle separating you from what's really going on down here in the real world. The illusion of wealth and all the 'ease' it gives a person keeps you separated from the masses and it shows. The Frey incident was one example of this attitude in my opinion. Concentrate on what's really important instead of your 'book club' and magazine and talk show. Not all of us are caught up in the glamour a person creates and projects into this world. Some of us want real substance and heart.
