If you had to choose between the good person, the person
who made you feel cuddly and content and the person who captivated you even though you couldn't explain why, who would
you choose? That's the choice for Dr. Bland, otherwise known as Travis. The final two are the feisty and emotionally
raw Moana and the perfect doctor's wife, Sarah. First up we have Sarah meet the parents. She does a great job charming the children and Travis's sister. She plays everything right and it's so deadly boring to watch. If she says she wants Travis one more time or that he is perfect for her I may throw something at the screen. The entire group just seems so dull and restrained. That's all set to change when it's time for Moana's meet and greet.
As Travis says "Moana is a slightly different personality than Sarah." He says he does not hope she can
make a better impression than Sarah, only that she can make an equal impression. The second his family meets Moana it
begins to rain. Even the weather gods know this is going to be a rough day for Moana. Moana talks to Travis's sister
and the sincerity of Moana's affection moves his sister to tears. She is much more emotionally present and real than
Sarah.
You'd think that the little girls would go for the kindergarten teacher but little
Whitney actually prefers Moana. At dinner, the family grills Moana on why she and Travis should be a good couple. Moana
is the exact opposite of Sarah. She has no answer at the ready and just freezes. The parents then take Moana aside for a
quick quiz which again makes Moana cry. Her emotional nature is definitely her undoing.
Filler central as
the moms fly in and the girls go diamond and dress shopping. Then it's time for the last dates. I still can't call it
at this point. Sarah and Travis have a sweetly cozy perfect date that would be perfect for a couple has been married
for a few years. Travis and Moana have an edgy flirty date with a bit of awkwardness and a bit of kissing.
They show Moana first and he lets her down fairly gently. She is completely shocked. He explains that the reason he
is not choosing her is because he doesn't know where they would have taken their relationship next. Moana looks
physically ill as she is in the limo. They should have a friend or family member in the limo to comfort the loser. She
says that good girls always win and that guys like him don't choose girls like her. She's right, she deserves someone
with a lot more pep than Dr. Bland.
Sarah shows up for her rose with more makeup and cleavage than she has
shown the entire season. They declare their mutual perfectness for each other. Travis gives her a ring on a necklace.
Otherwise known as the not-proposal. Yawn. They may definitely be a couple which goes the distance. They are as they
have said over and over, perfect.

Here's the thing.
I don't like most reality shows, and Bachelor was probably on my all time most hated list. But my g/f is really into them. She indicated a little while ago that she enjoys watching it with others, and with the finale on last night, and no visitors to watch it with, I decided to sit with her, some popcorn, and watch.
I was mainly bored to tears. Which in itself is not a reason to *hate* a show like this.
But the part where the dark haired girl was dumped? And them filming her in the limo? How her life just became a complete train wreck, all her raw emotion? That was just too real, and the entire time this was going on, I was thinking, "shame on you (TV network - I dont know which one it's on)... shame on you for actually making money selling commercial space to Downy and Swifter etc etc while filming this all too real tragic case of a woman being completely destroyed and devestated because she apparently fell in love with someone who goes and dumps her".
This was the only episode of the Batchelor I've ever watched, and it will definitely be the last. It's emotional porn - the worst kind. Kind of like the beastiality porn of reality tv.

Deidre, you have said everything that I've wanted to say. Thank you!! I love the way you describe Moana as "the person who captivated you even though you couldn't explain why." That is so right and I too was first shocked and then bored by his decision. Moana really laid it all on the line when she opened up to him and it really sucks for her that he wasn't able to recognize her as she has often says she recognizes him. I felt oddly the same disenchantment last year when O'Connell chose the run-of-the-mill country girl over beautiful and polished Krisilly. Men always say they want someone exciting and exotic--but these last two Bachelors have chosen the homely girl next door--what gives?
Here's to Moana as the next Bachelorette!

My girlfriend loves the show too, and I would otherwise not have watched it, yada yada yada.
You wanna know why little Whitney liked Moana best? Because she saw her most recently! Kids that age can barely remember their own name, let alone which woman they found a suitable match for their uncle!
Moana seemed so fake. She was over-the-top when trying to describe her emotions. A person doesn't fall in love halfway through a reality show either. If you want to win, you at least act like you've been in love with Dr. Dull since you first laid eyes on him.
There was no way he was picking Moana in my mind. After her disaster with the parentals, she was doomed. This is a guy who won't disagree with his parents. I can't believe you couldn't call this one by the last dates!

Oh, I was hoping against hope that Mr. Staid and Stoic would follow his heart and not his head. So much for hope.
Not being privy to every interaction makes me cautious here but based only on what I saw... what the producers wanted me to see... Just look at WHO was reaching for WHOM!
I'm sorry but I didn't see Dr. Bland reaching for Sarah. His eyes and his arms sought Moana. Take a look!
He may have chosen Sarah, but he didn't reach for her. That body language that he has for Moana says he what he wouldn't (good boy that he is).
Poor thing; I can see he's still conflicted. That good Southern upbringing is hard to break free of. And Sarah just represents more of the same.
Some people's lives are nice and neatly planned; and they know where they are going. But one's heart, that's for the fire, that's for the unknown.
He should have taken the chance on what he felt for Moana. Instead, he took the safe bet, concerned that he wouldn't be able to keep growing with Moana (hell, their relationship might just exceed the comfortable boundaries of his life).
Should of NEVER brought the parent's in. (Gee, son, surely you wouldn't choose Moana...)
And Moana, fret not. It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings.

I think you all aren't seeing the real picture, Moana was a fruitcake, I see being the fatal attraction type, after what two months, she would of married a guy that has been dating someone else. Aleast Sarah had a good head on her shoulders and went slow and maybe after the show, they will get to know each other better (with no camaras) then maybe they will get married. Whats the rush??

I agree with the statement "Dr. Bland" I really thought he was going to surprise us and be a deeper thinking person. I suppose he picked the "right" girl for himself, since he was unable to see the depth to Moana. Finding a man that will know and understand her depth will be worth the wait for her. During the first few episodes, I thought Travis was emotionally immature. His final choice just proved it.

This is television and it is all in the editing. I'm sure that Travis and Sarah had a lot more going on than was ever shown. They showed much more of Moana and Travis to throw off the viewers, otherwise no one would have sat thru an entire season.

The name, "Moana" is a Polynesian name. It is also a Hawaiian name which means in Hawaiian, "ocean." It is the "deepest part of the ocean where it is sometimes calm and sometimes very turbulent." In Hawaiian culture, the name you give a person is a serious thing. It has what we call in Hawaii, "Mana" or power.
I feel sad for Moana, I feel for her. She has the grace, beauty, and sensitivity which are qualities that empower her soul. She will find, "Mr. Right" when the timing is right. I want her to know that she has a special place in many viewer's hearts and to be proud of who she is. The name, "Moana" is so popular in Hawaii, that my parents bought me a special State of Hawaii license plate in 1976 at 16 years old. I have had it for 28 years now and there isn't one day that goes by where someone will offer me money to sell my name, on my license plate. That's the "Mana" in the name. Be strong, Moana for you have your whole life ahead of you and this was an opportunity and experience which will indeed help you grow more beautiful, inside and out.
Aloha,

Aloha,
I would like to send my heartfelt thoughts to Moana. She has the beauty, grace, depth, and sensitivity to capture millions of viewers who have watched this show. What I would like to tell her if I could, is that she should not be devastated. She is a very classy young woman. The name, "Moana" is a Hawaiian name. It means, "the deepest part of the ocean where it is sometimes calm and sometimes turbulent." In Hawaiian culture, a name given at birth is a very serious thing. It carries, "Mana", or power. In 1977, my parents bought me a special State of Hawaii license plate with my name, "Moana" on it. I have owned this plate for 29 years now. There is NOT one day that goes by that someone asks me to sell my plate-to sell my name. So, to the beautiful Moana whose heart and soul are devastated, Mr. Right will appear in your life and you will not cry, you will rejoice with all the confidence you possess, as you have journeyed through this incredible experience, (through this show), and will continue to grrow and blossom into the beautiful young woman you already are. You are, "MOANA."
Aloha Pumehana (with much love),

After watching the final episode, having sat through the entire season for the first time ever, I had questions about Dr. Bland's sexual orientation. From what I can tell he picked the woman most likely to be his best buddy, while he turned away one sexy woman after another. H e l l o! Not that there's anything wrong with that. As a matter of fact I'd be more likely to watch future seasons if the show was marketed as one in which a gay man selects his favourite straight girlfriend.
If The Bachelor is going to be devoid of sexual chemistry, it might as well be fun.

I think it's pretty obvious that the real reason Moana was so distraught was because she ventured out of her shell & it didn't come to fruition. She is a hardcase; self-protective, conservative, cautious...perhaps even a little damaged?... but hey, nothing ventured - nothing gained, right? Look at the bright side, Moana; all the world (or at least the massive N.American viewing audience) now knows you as the dark-eyed fiery beauty you are. And Travis will likely wonder for the rest of his life what it might have been like coming home to you instead of Mother Hen & her excruciating childrens songs (snore). Finally, if mother-in-laws are their daughters future gauges, he certainly missed out (your mom's a hottie :).

Would everyone please just leave Sarah alone!! Moana is unstable and sounds like everything she says has been taken from a cheesy Jackie Collins novel and rehearsed the night before. Is it so boring that Sarah is a sweet, (certainly not prudish as made clear by how quickly she wanted in the bedroom when Travis suggested it) fun-loving, easy to be with girl? Who wants the sort of emotional drainage the "siren" Moana would provide for a life time? No thanks.

I totally had the same exact thoughts as Val (comment #4) Being an avid viewer, I always noticed that no matter how much the other girls were green with envy at all the attention TRAVIS CHOSE to give Moana, Travis always reached for her, hugged her a little longer, kissed her more passionately. He spoke from his heart when he spoke of her. I personally fell in love with Moana, and the fact that the other girls were so unfairly viscious to her made allot of root for her that much more. Too bad for Travis, some lucky guy will realize what a catch she is and win her heart! And DITTO Cyruss, on your comment 11.

I agree 100% with the Dr. Bland comment. Here is a guy who was raised in the South, Conservative family, becomes everything Mom and Dad wanted him to become. (Dr.Travis Stork) He was completely out of his normal element. A million miles from home in Paris, having lot's of beautiful women after him, homesick for the hum drum life on Nashville, TN. The only thing that reminded him of home and his "comfort zone" was Sarah. Sarah would make the perfect Doctor's wife raising another line of boring conservative Dork's (I mean Storks) to populate the Nashville area. They will have alot more Storks who will do the same thing for generations to come. As you can start to see Moana and her passion for life doesn't fit into this boring little town Little House on the Prarie. She was a risk for sure, but not an option for this boy from the South. I would rather be locked in a room for 2 years than spend the rest of my life watching little miss sarah in my house knitting sweaters and making scrapbooks. May they live boringly ever after!!!

Possibly Manic-depressive Moana(Rarely have viewers witnessed such highs and lows emotionally from one woman) or sweet, sensible Sarah-the choice is obvious and always was. Letting your heart over rule your head does not lead to a lifetime of happiness. Ask anyone who had loved someone who is emotionally unstable. It is agony for all concerned. Travis made the right choice, whether or not it leads to love and marriage. The producers showed us what they wanted us to see-it is called good TV. But in this case, shame on them for showing Moana's heartbreak. Maybe The Bachelor has run its' course.

I was very disappointed with Travis' choice. Moana was real and I believe she truly fell in love with him. I belive Travis chose Sarah to please his parents. I did not sense the chemistry between Travis and Sarah. There was a lot of chemistry between Travis and Moana and I truly believe that he wanted Moana. But Moana will survive and it's Travis' loss. One day she will meet her true prince.

Travis picked his southern belle Sarah....she's such a "stepford wife" type....I was hoping against hope that he'd pick the wonderful Moana. He would have been the envy of all his fellow doctors with a wife like Moana. Sarah is cute in a girl-next-door kind of unsexy way....whereas Moana was totally gorgeous in a sexy but classy way. I believe Moana really cared about him while Sarah just thought him a "perfect" catch. I suspect he'll live to regret his choice. His comment was "when I'm with Sarah, I'm happy". He "needs" Sarah's sunshiney, stepford-wife-like personality to keep him feeling good. Moana is his soul-mate....Sarah is his anti-depressant medication.
