The funny thing about each and every
season of American Idol is the contestants with mediocre talent who continue to sail through to the next
round. You know what I'm talking about. They're cute and cuddly and have oodles of personality, but they're a little
short on the talent category. There's a faction of television-watching, telephone-using Americans out there who insist
on keeping these people on the show while other contestants with more talent get the boot.I have five examples of American Idol contestants who wouldn't go away:
5. Constantine Maroulis. Yeah, I said it. Constantine thought he was sexy and talented. Not an attractive characteristic on a man who only has mediocre looks and talent. Constantine regularly sang out of tune and falsely advertised himself as a rocker. He was in Rent, for crying out loud! A musical! The dude was a poser and I wanted to slap that pout right off his face. I think we all know who the true rocker was last season. (P.S. More proof he's a poser: his new album is Adult Contemporary. Watch out, Clay!)
4. John Stevens, the original crooner. This red-haired Frank Sinatra wanna-be from New York was definitely unique. But he could only do one thing: rip off Frank. And not very well. He just kept hanging on, making it into the Top 6 before finally getting the boot. He outlasted Jennifer Hudson, which is just wrong.
3. Justin Guarini. Sorry, Justin. You're cute and sweet but I think you know that you had no right sharing the stage with Kelly Clarkson during the finals of season one. You didn't have the vocals. You never did. All you had was cuteness and energy, which got you past some truly talented ladies. It should've been Kelly and Tamyra or Kelly and Christina in the finals.
2. Jasmine Trias. How did she make it to the Top 3 in Season 3? How? She beat out George Huff, Jennifer Hudson, and LATOYA LONDON! My theory is that the entire state of Hawaii kept voting for her. She kept that flower in her ear the whole time to represent her home state. Hawaii, you are deaf!
1. Nikki McKibbon, the karaoke singer. Nikki is the all-time worst offender on American Idol and she made it all the way to the Top 3 in season one. She received more votes than Tamyra Gray and Christina Christian. I remember Simon telling her flat-out that she didn't deserve to be there and wondered who the hell was voting for her. I'm still wondering that myself. Even though she dressed pretty wild (with ever-changing hair colors), she was forgettable. Oh, and terrible.
By the way, go look at these photos of Clay Aiken and ask yourself, "Why did I vote for this guy?"

The great thing about Clay is that he didn't look like a pop star at all. I remember at his audition, he walked in and Simon looked at him and said, "Why are you here?" and Clay looked him right in the eye and said, "I'm here because I'm the next American Idol". Simon kinda smirked, until Clay opened his mouth and sang.
Clay opened the door for this season, which more than ever has some kinda dorky looking guys with great voices (ala Elliot). I think people responded to Clay because he was different, he had remarkable talent, and mostly because he was just nice and humble - very similar to the reasons they responded to Bo last season. Although Bo has the sexy thing going as well, oh yes, he does.

Well, Anna, I don't have to ask myself why I voted for Clay Aiken because I know why. It was and is about the voice. He had better pictures from back then that you could have used. Clay's look has changed. He is older and has stylist to help with his look. He just didn't know how to dress then. I guess some people have always been perfect though.

because im a rational person who does not judge people based on how they look, but on the kind of talent they have.
besides, looks can be fixed, but talent?
people should think twice before making this stupid comments. sorry.

Six of the 8 pics of Clay that Fox chooses to keep up at the AI site are "pre-makeover" & one of the other two is just a funny looking shot like you often get when someone is singing. AI has never been happy about Clay's popularity before or after the end of AI2 and they go out of their way to show unflattering clips of him whenever possible.
I've seen pics of Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Mariah Carey, and Kelly Clarkson that would make you wonder how they ever got to be pop stars, too.

You got one thing right about Constantine. He didn't, isn't, and won't be going away any time soon! It's great to know that he's still on your mind and thanks for keeping his name out there!!! His solo album should be released around September so that will give you something else to think about and another Constantine mention!! Thanks again! : )

Your section on Constantine has to be the most moronic thing I have ever read. If you didn't like him that's one thing. But, to trash him while knowing nothing about him or the topic at hand just makes you look less than intelligent. I'm sure his lack of talent is what encouraged Brian May of Queen to contact him and invite him to sing Bohemian Rhapsody on the Killer Queen Tribute CD. I'm sure his lack of talent is what got him into the Boston Conservatory, one of the most pretigious art schools in America. Note to Anna: RENT is a ROCK musical. Bo and Constantine are two different types of rockers but it doesn't mean one is more of a rocker than the other.
At least Con was Versatile. Anyway, thanks for the free press, I'm sure he's laughing all the way to Gramnet, while you write your ill informed drivel.

What, no Scott Savol? I want to meet the people who said, "He beat his girlfriend, he's ugly and he sings really badly, but it'll be fun to vote for him."

You can buy Justin's new cd at his website - www.justinguarini.com. :)
I think you'd be singing a different tune if you actually, you know, listened to the cd. But of course, that's no doubt too much too ask. Its far easier for lazy reporters to regurgitate the same old snarky lies they've read before in other 'attack-blurbs', because it requires little thought. And frankly, I'm sure that all five of the above TALENTED and YOUNG artists can sing better than this writer writes - taking bets on one, folks! I for one wish them all the best of luck, they're all very talented.

A big word of THANKS for keeping Constantine's name out there! Love getting those alerts frequently! Perhaps a little more research is warranted on your part. Good or Bad he and his fans appreciate the free recognition......you are one of the many, many, many making sure he doesn't go away anytime soon! And for that we are greatful.

Constantine Maroulis has that WOW factor . . . which excites wildly positive and negative (unfortunately, in this case) reactions. He is actually quite talented in a refreshingly versatile way. Picking on him among the above choices you made indicates a personal axe to grind?? Obviously, the man has caught on in America, and I, for one, can see why. I've been missing his charismatic presence on TV like some of the above folk :)

Wow. The controversy. The emotion. The Idon'tgiveacrap. This is 'American Idol,' it isn't as though Anna said Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a bad man and never rewound his videos...

Why the harshness, dude? Cut them some slack! Bet we all wouldn't mind walking in these folks' shoes for even a day! Kudos to them for taking the stage....for the most part I agree with you...but Constantine has a major future...he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

You think Constantine didn't go away soon enough? How annoying do you find it that he hasn't gone away YET? And probably won't any time soon, either. As for Justin - he has a nice album of standards out now. I think he probably should have come in third rather than second in his year, but he really was not as poor as you make him out to be, and I was a Kelly fan.
I'd say you got three of these right, but I'd exchange Constantine and Guarini for Scott Savol and Carmen Rasmussen myself.

Why the harshness indeed? I can agree with some of your criticisms, but . . . I think comments #9, 10, and 11 are spot on. Constantine Maroulis possesses the WOW factor. His talent as an entertainer and performer coupled with a charisma no other constestant possessed was obvious. Can't wait to hear his solo CD and see him in his new show. Didn't notice Hollywood writing a sitcom for anyone else from Idol!

Ummm, sweetie? Next time you write an article about someone, would you please have the sense to do your research first? Constantine was in a few musicals, yes. Most of them rock musicals: RENT, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Hedwig...amongst numerous other shows in high school and at the Boston Conservatory.
I did want to thank you for putting his name out there though, the more exposure the better! Rock on, Con!

THANK YOU!!!!! I apreciate that you keep talking about Constantine; good words or not you keep talking about him and thatīs great! You may not like him, thatīs fine but just to remind you a few things:
1) He recorded Bohemian Rhapsody for the Queen Tribute, any other constestan did something like that?? Kelly, Carrie, Bo? Nope..
2) He was on a national tour with his band...
3) Heīs recording his solo album
4) Heīll be doing the tv show
You can disagree about the rocker thing, but you canīt say that he has no talent.
