You wanna pour your heart out? Or maybe explain yourself or apologize
(*cough* James Frey *cough*)? You go on Oprah, of course! And Dave Chappelle will explain all this Friday on Oprah's
show. This is what Oprah's site says:
He was the hottest comedian in the country. Then he mysteriously disappeared. Why did Dave Chappelle walk away
from $50 million? He addresses the widely reported rumors in his first television interview. And the big
question...will he go back to his show?

ARE YOU HUMAN "people" OR SOME ANIMAL PACK????
Dave gave us joy. I never saw all his performances and for that I am now truly sorry. His laughter was one of the few things my 22 year old daughter and I could talk about and agree on. A little raw-sure. If you don't cross the line, will you ever know? He was better than the common jokester. He didn't rely on a string of 4-letter words to make us laugh. No-HE was a comedian. Is a comedian. More than that,he has proved his humanity.
So he walked away from oodles of money. Who are we to decide what his soul needed? He 's not the first performer who is in search of himself, his value set, what will give him inner peace .He was in inner pieces and shame on all the handlers and sycophants for protecting their pay stubs.
He's a Mensch. Just my opinion of course.
Crazy? Angelina-fresh white bun in the oven- Joli-Pitt,serial monogamist with her multi-colored babies and her deserter - good riddance -husband.
Who gives 2 cents for Affleck-how soon we find a new "love."
(And if you can't come up with more examples, you aren't trying.)
But leave a career and go to Africa-no illicit drugs included-YOU MUST BE CRAZY!
You gave me joy,a laugh when I craved diversion, respite from the hypocrisy .
You helped my wounded spirit.
And I hope someone can do the same for you.
It's a long road. And "humanity" is stupid.

Don't judge anyone until you walk in their shoes and even after that don't. It is his life and his business. He does not owe us anything and we d nt owe him anything. He gives us comedy and we pay for it. If he decides to stop, it is his perogative. Anyone who has quitted a job becasue their boss was an ass or abusive or had difficult coworkers should get this.

Hmm, I wonder if anyone cares anymore about Mr. Chappelle (except maybe the suits at Comedy Central who shelled out all of that money for an extended contract). This happened several months ago. I can only see him coming onto Oprah to explain himself in conjunction with a release of some other project.

I have always enjoyed Dave Chapelle's show and I have respected his comedic talent. Granted this was a silly incident that he will financially feel the brunt of for years, but I can’t wait to see what his reasoning was.

I think its going to be great. I think having him on Oprah is going to be awesome. Dave is a great comedian period so let's jus tofucs on that, not what the suits want done to his show or when they want him to perform.

I think that Dave Chappelle is one of the greatest comedians to ever walk the stage. He's had some amazing trailblazers though, Prior, Murphy, Carlin, Williams, and I could go on . . . To answer a few of your posts, I hap0pen to care about Chappelle. I have followed his career for years as a fan and i own both seasons 1 and 2 of the Chappelle show. When I heard what happened I was caught off guard, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's crazy. Yes, $50 million is a lot of money. A LOT OF MONEY!!! However, I wouldn't go as far as to say that he needs to be slapped. I am excited that he's going to be in the actor's studio and even more excited that he's going on Oprah this friday. Trust that he will explain everything that's been going on and this will be one of the best shows Oprah will have this year. LONG LIVE CHAPPELLE!!!!!!

OMG, I Totally agree with you, he is what every true underground music fan wants. A famous icon refusing to sell out. Coheed was amazing before they went mainstream and onto MTV, they were one of my favorites, now they dont seem so great anymore. I think Dave Chapelle is one of us real fans and understands how his real fans feel.

I'm watching him on Oprah right now - it's sad. It seems like a psychotic break happened here. He seemed borderline schitzophrenic to me. Sad.

All you people that are bad mouthing Dave Chappelle are ridiculous... If you cannot recognize his comic genius you are a moron. He has broken down so many barriers that so many are too affraid to even touch. He is an extension of Richard Pryor reign as a progressionist. Yeah he left the county to reflect on where this show was going... he knew the power he had in the postion he was in and wanted to make sure his message was some-what moral. So why dont you go back to cubical and cram some more TPS reports up you brown nosing pathetic look at me I can talk trash on the internet because it makes me look tough ass... go eat a low carb bagel.

THERE IS ONLY ONE POINT TO MAKE. DAVE IS A REAL PERSON WHO DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE MONEY HE JUST WANTS PEOPLE TO SMILE AND BE HAPPY. THIS COUNTRY IS FULL OF PEOPLE WHO THINK MONEY WILL SOLVE EVERYTHING. JUST WAIT AND SEE TO WHERE THE GOOD OL' U.S. OF A IS IN A FEW MORE YEARS. IT WILL NOT BE SUCH A HAPPY PLACE. SO I AM GOING TO ENJOY DAVE AND OTHERS LIKE HIM AS LONG AS I CAN. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Who can judge Dave for his decision? He was smart to consider future generations blacks of and Whites who will be affected by his brand of humer. The social implacations are very deep, and every body has there own subjective interpretation of his show. David's mix of satire and racism is is very risky especially in a culture where most whites don't take racism serious...

Yeah, I'm not hating on him at all. I think he's a genuis (I mean, jeez, I even watched Oprah.) I'm just saying, he sounded paranoid, disjointed, unclear and scattered. His reasons for leaving were undiscernible - one crew member LAUGHED THE WRONG WAY - so Dave walked out, everybody lost their jobs, and he went to Africa without telling his wife and children. Or maybe it was that people wanted something from him - but that wasn't articulated either - he seemed happy with the money and the creative control...He just skipped around, looking quite glassy. I hope he gets help - the guy snapped if you asked me. Here's to Dave getting better...

Dave Chappelle is an all around good guy! He is generally a very good person and very REAL! I feel like I am right there with Dave Chappelle. I think he wants the world to just be real, not fake producers and writers trying to convince him to do shit he does not want to do, and he wants everybody to be cool and be themselves. It is so obvious that he is a really godd guy in that interview with Opera. Only people who saw the interview, do you agree and see what I see??
By the way, Comedy Central, PLEASE get him back for another season, and give him control so that he will want to stick around longer, and no dresses!

"I so hope she bitchslaps him for about an hour for being so stupid" you stupid, stupid, stupid fu... person.
"His reasons for leaving were undiscernible - one crew member LAUGHED THE WRONG WAY - so Dave walked out" I don't even think you watched the show, because if you did, you would have seen that man trying to explain this the best way he can. I think everybody knows where he is coming from. I think everybody has seen things going the wrong way for them before, with no explanation. He just saw things going wrong, that "laugh" happened to be one of the few items he mentioned (and he mentioned it more than once, so now people like you are going to act as though a laugh caused him to freak, you punk, bitch)
He is not crazy (from what I can see), he DOES seem scatter brained, but with how much comedic genius is locked into that head, you would be a little scatter brained too.
Plus, YOU and most human beings, would be nervous as hell when confronting the world with your "crazy" problems. He went to Africa to cool the F off, most of us would do that given the opportunity, he just happened to have the money to do it. I guarantee that everybody has thought about doing what he did at work sometime (maybe not to Africa, but you get the point).
I have always said that I love my freedom to up and leave anytime I want, NOBODY can stop me no matter what (as long as I do it legally). Dave Chappelle is a man who wanted to get out for a while and he did. Good for him.
His nervousness on Oprah, yeah, it was apparent, he would not look up all of the time, but I would love to see how ANY of you would react given the exact same situation. To face the world that thinks your crazy on national TV, and be able to maintain your composure the way he did??? Pretty impressive if you ask me. I know, you didn't ask me. He still managed to be funny too.

Dave was disoriented and confused on Oprah!! He was either heavily medicated or still high!! He still never answered the question of why he left. He resembled Richard Pryor... just too young to be losin' it mentally. He was not himself... maybe he is crazy... conspiracy? Maybe every one at Comedy Central was right(including his friend/writer).
The normally brilliant and hilarious Cappelle was slow, unresponsive, and was borderline slurring his words. To imagine that Dave is sensitive to other's opinions
and feels he has a public responsibilty is hilarious in it's self!!! Something's wrong with him... medication, drugs, or just plain crazy!
