Following the success of Serenity, there's been a lot of talk
lately about the return of Firefly to
television. Sister-site Cinematical has a post on the subject, talking about
the independent publishing company trying to obtain the rights to the deceased series. My understanding is that, with
the release of the website in
question, the independent publishing company will continue to get a good sense of the interest in their project
from fans, possibly using the information to sell a produced second season to a real network.I'm not really sure I buy that all the necessary actors (and writers!) would be on-board with the project if done in this way. These people need to work, and I'd find it hard to believe they'd sit around waiting for one hell of a maybe to take place. . .no matter how good the series is.

The tv series and movie weren't flops at all. With all of the garbage that remains onscreen, Firefly was undoubtedly the best show out there. It's just ashame that something as well put together as Firefly, gets canned before really getting off the ground. The show was not given a chance and completely overlooked. It just goes to show you the mentality of these bigwigs at the stations. They would rather put a show out about catching a MURDERER. Wow, that's a new idea. Haven't heard of that concept before!

I live in the UK and only just saw Firefly.
I have to say i am STUNNED that such an amazing series was stopped after only one season when so many other VERY poor Sci-Fi series continue on series after series.
I have passed Firefly on to other sci-fi friends, all of which are stunned at both how good and ahead of its time Firefly was and equally so to its being culled after one season.
Come on Fox and co, do the right thing and get this going again!

I think one of the problems with the internet is that a lot of people
don't bother to follow links. They see Firefly Season Two, read the
blurb a site has posted about it, and move along thinking there is
actually something to this. There isn't. But don't take my word for it.
Follow the links and decide for yourself.

Firefly was a flop and so was Serenity. No producer who values his job or the bottom line is going to green light such a money pit doomed to failure.

I loved both the series and the movie, as did a good number of people, but unfortunately neither the show nor the movie performed very well. Sorry, but it's done from a conventional standpoint. Maybe they should continue it as a DVD series, or get with 2929 Entertainment and release a sequel in theaters with an immediate release on DVD, ala Bubble (if of course that worked out with that movie).

Serenity was a success? Don't get me wrong; I liked both the TV show and th movie, but according to Box Office Mojo the film didn't even break even and the series was only mildly successful. I'm sure these actors would like a steady job, but an Internet TV show. I don't think we're to that stage in the entertainment industry yet.

TV Squad really needs a "Too Good to be True" category to file this sort of thing under.

I'd really like to see Firefly come back to TV. I never got interested in it until they started re-running the series before Serenity came out. The characters are a lot of fun and it's such a cool twist for "cowboys in space." I like the way the writers have developed the series so far and the characters, again, are the best.

I'm pretty sure fans' best bet for Serenifly (hey, Joss said it so now I can too) is another movie or two. As many have already pointed out, the franchise hasn't exactly been a money maker. I love the series and the film, but the world doesn't revolve around us fans, sad to say. Hell, we're all lucky to have even gotten Serenity in the first place.

I agree that this doesn't mean anything, but I have a few things to say about previous comments:
1. A lot of people misquote Joss saying he would never make another Firefly series. What he actually said is that if he did make another series, it wouldn't be Firefly just like Serenity wasn't Firefly and just like another movie wouldn't be Serenity. My understanding of this is that if there's another series, it wouldn't be called Firefly.
2. Joss has said that if he does end up making another movie / series, both Wash and Book would be in it.
3. Although box office revenues weren't great, the Big Screen is just really marketing for the DVDs. Most movies make more money on DVD sales than they do in theatres. That's why we got Serenity even though Firefly's TV ratings were poor. If Firefly and Serinity sales are good and the interest is there, this may warranty another movie (whether for theatre of direct to dvd) or tv series. Honestly though, I don't know how much money has been made with the DVDs so far or how much would be needed for them to seriously consider another addition to the 'verse.
