CSI: NY - Risk

Mac
and StellaWhen I reviewed last week's episode, I made a few remarks that the writers for this show weren't really doing much to expand the backstories for the main characters. They didn't hear me, because this week was the same deal. I want more than just a case. Give me something on Mac's wife who died in the 9/11 attacks. Give me something on Lindsay's background (we found out she likes opera... that's it). Give me anything on Stella or Danny. I'll say this much. I'm not the only one who must feel this way because out of all the shows I cover for TV Squad, this one receives the fewest comments and last week's didn't get any.

Back to the review... there were two cases. Surprise!  A dead college student is found on the subway tracks and a commodities broker hung himself out his window. Let's solve some crime.

Case numero uno. Mac, Lindsay, and Danny investigate the college student found on the tracks. He was beat over the head with a piece of wood and Danny rules out the fraternity paddle owned by the roommate and the axe handle owned by the bouncer of the club they were at. There was also a sharks tooth embedded in the kid's hand. Odd... but not that odd when Adam (one of the new lab techs) determines that the tooth only belonged to one of a certain number of sharks caught on the east coast. And fishing records can be obtained. So guess who caught it? The subway conductor. He had a shark tooth missing from his keychain because the student grabbed at it when the conductor pushed him out of the train. The schmuck had been drunk and causing a good ol' ruckus. And the wood splinters? They matched the paddle used by the conductor to wedge on the brake when the train was parked.

Case number two is a bit easier to explain. After examining the body, Sid is certain the guy was murdered. His name was Q.T. Jammer... I'd pay money for that name. He was one of the biggest brokers in the city and his assistant wanted in. Securities and Exchange Commission rules state that his underbroker would get his client list should he die. So his assistant drugged him, strangled him, and made it look like the guy hung himself. Easy case for Stella and Doc Hawkes.

That was it and don't get me wrong - I enjoy the cases. But am I alone in this feeling? What can be done to make this as good as the other two CSI's?
