NBC didn't expect such a large response when it put out the call for the next installment of The Biggest
Loser. Producers ended up canceling a casting call at a San Diego restaurant because they couldn't accomodate all
the hopefuls. An estimated 1,500 people crammed inside and waited on the street near Dave & Buster's cafe, where
the open audition was being held. No word on whether NBC plans to re-schedule that audition.It's no secret this country has a weight problem, but do you think this turn-out is because people want to lose weight or they want to be on television? Or both.

Strange thing is that this happened in San Diego. Compared to most cities - especially all othose in the south, midwest, north, east coast - San Diego's extremely thin. Get off a plane in San Diego, you know you're on the west coast. Land somewhere like Atlanta, Washington, Chicago and you wonder if all the fat people ate the skinny ones. Guess all the fatties showed up to be on TV.

I've got some junk in the trunk and my mother has a weight problem as well. What's featured prominitely in "The Biggest Loser" is the actual weight loss and not the competition. Not only does the show make weight loss look doable (if TOO EASY) but they show the difficulties of trying to lose weight and getting support through the process. Going away to a camp with a bunch of other people with similar problems SOLELY CHANGE YOUR EATING AND EXERCISE PATTERNS is extremely alluring.
The fact that so many have auditioned is comparable to Fear Factor. People are semi-humiliated on this show and OBVIOUSLY are in physical and mental pain during the show. And being overweight doesn't normally encourage a person to be photographed so being on TV!?! But those auditioning demonstrate that there are millions of Americans who yearn for that kind of experience and will sacrifice the pain of being on TV and in a competition to try to change their life.
So, less glorification on TV and more Life-changing experience.
