This is a very fine article on the
current state of Scrubs and how it fits in on NBCs programming schedule. The cast and crew unanimously say
it's great to back after a longer-than-expected hiatus. In fact, they mostly say it was actually a blessing in disguise
since it gave the perpetually underrated show something to prove as well as some extra time to develop the scripts.
The one bombshell that's dropped by producer Bill Lawrence is that the show might move to ABC after the end of the fifth (and current) season. Lawrence cites the financial realities of modern TV as the primary reason such a move might happen. You see, most shows these days are produced by corporate brethren of the networks that air them. That's not the case with Scrubs, which is produced by Touchstone Television (part of the ABC Disney empire) but aired on NBC. That means NBC doesn't have the monetary incentive to keep the show on since it would be getting a share of the profits. Still, Lawrence doesn't sound anxious to move and cites the fact that NBC has kept the show on and seems to be showing it at least a little love.
I have to say that, considering ABC's history of mangling quality shows (cough Sports Night /cough) I'd hate to see it move. I just have this sinking feeling that if it went to ABC and did the same low ratings numbers that it would be pulled in favor of Hope & Faith reruns.

If it's a choice between no Scrubs, or Scrubs on ABC, I'll take the latter. NBC already buried another one of my favorite shows, American Dreams, and it never got a chance to be reborn on another network (although it was custom made for one of the family-friendly ones).

Not that I would necessarily want Scrubs to move to ABC given their less than stellar recent dealings with sitcoms. Can you say Emily’s Reasons Why Not and Jake in Progress given one week to produce and yet Freddie being picked up for an entire season. Yet in my TV dream world how great would it be to sit down for an hour-long comedy block of Scrubs and Arrested Development? One can always wish anyway.
