OK, let me say right up front that I simply did not
like this episode. Actually, I sorta hated it. No big plot developments. No mysteries solved or revealed. And then
Charlie goes bonkers for seemingly no apparent reason, only to get his ass beat down my Locke. What's more, we have to
wait until Februrary 8 for a new episode. Bummer.Hurley (or "Jabba," as Sawyer calls him) seems to continue his moves onto Libby, but he seems to know her
from somewhere. Didn't she say something about being a doctor before? In a psych ward, perhaps? Hmm?
Anyway,
obviously this was a very Charlie-centric episode, bringing us as far back as his childhood. I did see the neat
symbolism they were trying to convey, with Liam trying to protect his family, and Charlie trying to do the same for
Aaron, but it just wasn't enough. First of all, Charlie had one dream, not many (or so it seemed). So, from one crazy
dream and sleepwalk, he basically puts the camp in danger on a whim?
I can only assume that the writers were
trying to do one or several significant things in this episode. First, they wanted the audience to sympathize for
Charlie and to set him up as even more of an outcast from the rest of the group. Secondly, they set up things in motion
to show Locke as slightly darker than we've already seen him. Obviously Locke has a superiority complex that's growing
on him, one that Charlie helped elevate quite a bit. Could his keeping the statues of Mary in the bunker simply be him
noting the medical benefits of a painkiller, or something completely different?
So, what of Aaron and being
in danger? What could possibly happen at this point that might cause the rest of the group to forgive Charlie and find
him in the right? The fact that Claire took Charlie's concern to heart, getting Aaron and herself baptised, shows that
there's some genuine feelings there for what Charlie said. Then again, she could just be a paranoid freak.
We still don't know what happened to Claire when Ethan took her last season. Will we ever know?
Quote of
the episode: "I'm sure you've got a load you need to drop in, don't ya Jethro?"

So true, so true. The worst part about this episode was that the events of the previous episode were virtually ignored. All we get is one little reference to the Other threatening Kate. No one even cares that Michael is gone, it's just business as usual. This season has just been a mess...

hey ... considering a huge chunk of the US population hasn't seen this episode yet (us West Coasters) ... you think you might have had the courtesy to not post plot points on the main page

I think that one of the things the producers were trying to do was to take up some time and mess with our heads before we have to wait weeks to get a new episode. I can't say there's any progress here, if anything this made things worse. Oh well.
Most disappointed was I.

What did I spoil on the front page? That Charlie goes bonkers and Locke beats him up? I hardly think you'll watch this episode and feel disappointed that you know those facts ahead of time. The episode sucks on its own.

oh, come on people. this was a great episode. Look deeper at the parallels established between Walt and Aaron. both are the only two children on the island, one black, one white. Good and evil? Probably. Look at the parallels being made between Aaron and Jess. Walt is being "protected" by the Others while John Locke is maniplating himself to being Aaron's protector for some reason.
It's clear Charlie is going to have to save Aaron from Locke, who is hoarding the heroin to frame Charlie later to get him ot of the way. There's a lot of plot development brewing here. this was not siappointing filler.

OK, Jamie has a point about Locke and the heroin. He may very well be hording it to set Charlie up later.
Still, I don't buy Aaron being "evil". It'll be some time before we'd even see that, don't you think?

Hey Gordon, do you just not have any self-control? If you didn't want to know about it you could have just stopped reading.
And I have to agree about this episode not being that great... though, I can't stand Charlie so that probably makes me a bit biased.

This was a really boring episode. Nothing really interesting happened on the island at all. It was all mostly backstory.
To those who are saying that John Locke is being manipulative and power compulsive is completly insane. Look at how Charlie has continually lied and HAS been hording all the drugs that was left and Locke caught him doing it. Knowing who Charlie was and has the potential to become, he started being protective to those that he could potentially hurt. Since the time of their arrival on the island he has basically looked out for everyone(even with Boone) in is own mysterious way. We would all probably act in a similar way knowing Charlie's previous addictions.

heroin is a useful pain killer when managed properly. With enough of it, you might even be able to operate on a person...
The problem with the ep is that it was a non-episode. Further mistrust of Charlie and his descent to the dark side. That's pretty much it. I don't care about any allusions to Walt vs Aaron; I don't buy them. Not unless Aaron starts levitating stuff around will I believe that Aaron has any use for The Others.

Wow this episode was good we finally got to see the infection that Russo(french woman) talked about.
That fact Charlie was the first infected, I wonder can Jack cure him or will they have to shoot Charlie.
Oh yeah all the west coast people(Tailies) it's been 50 years of your shows being delayed. I think it's time you adapted.

Man, could you remind us about the infection? I only recall that Russo wouldn't say a whole lot to Sayid.

Hey, I am west coast guy, and I just have one question. What the hell are you doing going to the blog site before you watch the show, and then complaining about it? Show a little self control. I always watch the show and then follow up with the blog.
This show has to be the worst episode of the entire two seasons. Its just not that interesting, revealing, or enthralling at all. It did give me hope for one thing: that Charlie may be the next to get killed off. I found myself actually hoping that it might happen by the end of this episode. Face it, where can his story go? I think this episode alone demonstrates that what little story there is to tell is so weak (and ill-received) that they should off the little hobbit.
The best part of the episode was the Jack/Ana Lucia exchange on the beach. It was frank, truthful and exactly what people would say to each other. But even that light moment gets lost in this horrible episode.

This was by far the worse, most boring episode of the series. I kept watching the clock saying something else has to happen. As much as I love this show, it was the first time I wanted by hour back. The only possible item I can bring out of this episode is why Locke would keep the drugs. He could easily have burned them, drop the in ocean or simply dispose of them anywhere else. I'm sure this will come up later but other than that...this whole Charlie story could have been told in less than 10 minutes. Boooo!!!

I must be weird because I liked this episode. I get a lot of satisfaction in finding out what makes the characters tick, rather than just knowing how they're connected and what they're doing on the island. Although the mysteries that all tie them to the island are riveting, I have confidence that they will come together in due time. In the mean time, I'd sure like to learn a lot more about the characters themselves and what "baggage" they've brought to the island.

Hurley stepping on Libby's foot? He was last on the plane, everyone was seated...shouldn't she have been in the tail section while his seat was in the front? Something is off with that and it will be significant. Otherwise, boring episode... Ecko still interesting doing nothing though!

Although I didn't hate it, I wasn't too crazy for this episode either. I think all the story points were valid, it just didn't have any oomph. So I'm guessing it was something lacking in the writing and direction.
If there had at least been one of those great little extras, those links we usually see in flashbacks to other characters; but so far as I could tell - we even got gipped on that.
The Charlie and Claire relationship needed this before it fell into a rut; it's conflict that makes everything interesting. I'm just worried now about the fate of Claire. Especially after hearing about the bump in pay for all the original cast members and yet Emilie deRavine's name wasn't on the list.....
Oh - and I'm on the East Coast and a great fan of the Harry Potter MOVIES. I read two of the books but decided I'd rather not ruin what I'd be seeing on the big screen. So thanks a lot for screwing that up....

Charlie was going crazy without taking drugs and Locke reacted to Charlie by punching him very hard. Are they being affected by the same disease that affected Danielle's crew?

Now, I wonder if Locke secretly gave Charlie the same medicinal paste that made Boone think that Shannon was killed by the monster. Locke is up to something in this episode.
