Well, I
guess we've all heard the big news today by now, right? The WB network and the UPN network are going to merge to become "The CW
network", or "The CW" for short. Sounds like a decent idea to me: two half-networks that are limping
along combine to create a more powerful network, capable of defeating the forces of evil while shooting lasers out of
its hands (wait, I might be getting this new network confused with Voltron). There's only one problem: the name. "The CW". I realize that the name is a combination of "CBS" and "Warner", and that naming it "The WC" is problematic; besides the fact that the name is a classy way to say "toilet", it's too close to "the WB" for comfort's sake. But this name... it just doesn't work for me. It sounds like it's one letter short of being called "The Cow", or, as one commenter suggested, "The Country Western Network".
So can anyone think of a better name? Let me know in the comments.

Someone earlier said The DuMont Network. How 'bout, DuMont 2: The Electric Bugaloo Skein?

Oh, I don't know...anything else! What kind of over-paid brain trust came up with The CW? Surely, they can do better than that!

It IS a hard fit. PWN, PaWN, WaPa... Nothing works. They'd have done better to come up with a new, catchy name like the cable networks.

The Synergy Network (Tagline: "Catch the Syn...", or all sorts of sin-esque ones)
The "Five Good Shows and a Bunch of Crap Network" or the "FGS&BoC Net". (They are Everwood, Smallville, GG, VM, and Chris, btw)
ViaWar, ViaNer, WarVia, WarCom...ooh, that's it. The WarCom Network! They could grab "Mail Call" from History Channel.
Whatever they do, they must bring back the UPN Platonic solid branding and that "Oopin" song they used to have. Oh, and Michigan J. Frog.
Finally, the real winner is Ravinda Bala of NY. He wins the whois sweepstakes with his ownership of thecw.com. Good on you, sir/ma'am.

WC may be the most appropriate. In addition to Water Closet, it articulates what most of us think about the merger. Who Cares?

I just find it kinda funny that the domain names cw.com and thecw.com are taken and not by them.

I was thinking they should go with The NET. It isn't an acronym like FOX isn't one. They can play off of NETwork and interNET, plus it sounds cool. "Next on the NET!'
