Hidden clue to Lost's timeline?

What does this mean? During last week's episode,
Hunting Party, one of Jack's flashbacks shows him looking
at an X-ray of his patient's back. The date on that X-ray: November 16, 2005. Huh??? The detail-oriented folks over at
Lost-Media
caught the date, which can only been seen if you have HDTV.
Was this an oversight on the part of the
directors? It's entirely possible that the x-ray was made in November for a January airing. But, nothing ever seems
accidental on
Lost. We don't actually know when
Lost happens and this X-ray suggests that it's in the
future. How far into the future? Well, far enough for Jack to get himself quite a
collection of tattoos.
Thoughts?

It's quite possible that when Lost started it was set in the future in relation to us but by now it's less so. We may now even be ahead of it. The series will never be in synch with real life because we've been watching them for well over a year but have only seen 50 days worth. In addition the X-ray doesn't help us much until we know how far before the crash it was. Even if the series started, say a year ahead of us and for arguments sake after 5 series they've been there a year - we would still end up 3 years ahead of them. They could have decided to set it far enough in the future so that by the end of their planned timeline we end up in synch. God knows.

It lends creedence to the idea that Lost is taking place in 2012 when the Mayans (or was it the Aztecs?) predicted the end of the world.

I agree with Thomas. In fact, the producers have made it clear that the date of the plane crash has been intentionally left out and that we do not know when the crash happened. I would suspect that the date on the x-ray is intentional, after all I notice a few "23s" on the film as well.

Didn't the remark Jack's father made to Sawyer the day before he died, (ie just before the crash) about the Boston red sox never winning the World Series mean that the crash had to have happened before they won since the episode was filmed after they the 2004 world series. Therefor I think this was just and accident that slipped through

I agree with Douglin. Let it go, people. They made a mistake, and Lost is NOT set in the future.

But that's just a saying that Jack's dad also uses. Just because it's not true anymore doesn't mean he would stop saying it.
Just pointing that out, though. I actually agree with you that it's just an oversight.

Actually, there's substantial proof at dharmasecrets.com about the year being around 2009.
In 1x04 Lock mentions Norman Croucher, he as of yet has not climbed Everest
http://www.normancroucher.co.uk/his_climbs.htm
found this from the oceanic world site... http://oceanicworldair.com/CamImg.jpg
it says its 2009 AND if you look in the top left corner, you can see what looks like flight 815.
http://megalottojackpot.com this is the site for Hurley having won the lottery. Everything I can find is that this site is offical if i am wrong sorry bout that now. There are two people that have won with checks dated 2009.
michael in the lawyer's office with the twin towers out the window means he could not have been in that room any later than sept 10 2001. if walt was 3 on that day and walt is 10 when the crash takes place, it has been 7 years since that meeting in the offices and that puts the day of the crash some time after sept 10th of 2009. for michael to be 10 already, start with 2001, age three, and count forward for each year. michael couldn't have turned ten until 2009, some time before the crash.

You've got the Michael thing backwards, I think, Bus. If it's been 7 years since the office meeting, and the meeting was before 9/11, then it's gotta be before 9/11/08.

I so want to think they've got us and it's 2009 in the lostiverse, but the Oceanic World Air cam isn't possible, January 11th 2006 is a SUNDAY not a Wednesday as the cam describes and Oceanic World Air isn't an official ABC site, so this is total red herring and not ABC generated.
The megalottojackpot checks however are on an offical site, and do indeed have 09 dates

I have heard quotes from the shows creators saying that to the characters the plane crash occured on the same day as the show debuted. October 2004. They are less specific about whether the events on the island occur on a date farther into the future.

I think it must be set in the future because i don't see how such a big mistake could be made ?? i hope if it was a mistake they'll confirm it soon.

I'm behind everyone, as I just watched S2E1 today. Important to note, though, is that washer and dryer on the megalottojackpot site. It's the first thing I noticed in the episode. The hatch, which presumably has been closed for quite some time, had that exact washer and dryer. Everything else inside the hatch was dated technology, but the washer and dryer were 2005 tech.
Of course, we find out that whatshisname wasn't down there long, so I could be reading too much into it. It's not like he's been in there since those vinyl records were current hits, or those computers were new technology. And these are the ramblings of someone just into Season 2, you guys all know much more than me.

You will also notice that the "Next Drawing Date" on the lottery site is 11/17/05 as well as a tribute to Hurley.
So let's see...The xray is dated 11/16/05, the next lotto drawing is 11/17/05, Hurley is already lost, and we have lottery winners from 2009 on the same page that tells us the next drawing is 11/17/05.
And if that cam image is right, it sure would explain the polar bears... -16.8F!
And, I don't know much about xrays, but does the "F/105y" on the xray mean it's from a 105 year old woman?
Come on people...the producers of Lost know that people look for this stuff. I'd be willing to bet that 80-90% of the "clues" are just red herrings.

ok this is weird... the megalotto site has a link to "oceanic-air.com" which has the Disney/ABC ToU and Privacy Policy (so I'm led to believe it's by the creators). There's some text behind one of the frames. It reads:
"If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...
Sally
I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents"
Check the source code, it's all there...

It's got to be one of two things. The show takes place in current time and they screwed up the date, or it takes place in the future and they screwed up with the Red Sox comment. I believe the latter.
Not even science fiction writers could stretch their vast imaginations to come up with a story where the Red Sox could win a world series. As always, truth is stranger than ficiton.

The date on the X-ray is a mistake. At the first LOST convention one of the writers Damon Lindelof stated in teh Q&A session that at the end of the first season it would have been around 48 days and it would have been "October 2004, sometime around Halloween."

I don't think the megalottojackpot site is an official ABC site. The website domain is registered to:
Tom Aire (3YDBZ)
Box 87471
Gaithersburg, MD 20886
United States
This is easily available by a "WhoIs" query on the domain name. So anything from that site should be ignored as being a clue to the series. I know they link to the ABC terms of use, but anybody can link to that.

Javier Grillo-Marxauch, supervising producer and one of the head writers, has confirmed that this is a production error. The producers have confirmed several times that the plane crashed around the time of the premiere. Check the boards at thefuselage.com (the official website of the Lost creative team).

With that, on the most recent Official Lost Podcast they addressed a peach (?) in "What Kate Did" that was labeled 2005 and how there are plenty of easter eggs but sometimes there are just continuity mistakes, like the peach.
God, I wonder how much their Script Supervisors get paid? And/or get harrassed?

I think it's just is just a continuity error
I'm not sure if the following site is owned by ABC, but it does list the crash as September of 04
http://www.driveshaftband.com/index.html
*UPDATE - September 23, 2004 - We've just learned that Charlie was aboard a plane that has been reported missing somewhere in the South Pacific. We have gathered the following information from various media sources covering the supposed crash and rescue effort:
Oceanic Flight 815 was flying from Sydney to Los Angeles when it mysteriously disappeared from radar at approximately 3:24pm, September 22, 2004. All attempts to contact the crew were unsuccessful. The plane is assumed to be downed somewhere in the area northwest of Fiji.
According to the passenger list, Charlie Pace was sitting in seat 29C. He was in Australia, presumably visiting his brother, who moved there with his family last year. Charlie had also recently played a few small gigs around Sydney. Evidently, Liam was not traveling with him on this flight, though there had recently been unconfirmed rumors that DriveSHAFT would be touring the States as a support band in the near future. So far, neither Charlie's family, nor any members of DS, have made a formal statement. Oceanic's release to the public said only that they were making every effort to locate the plane. Stay tuned to CNN and other news services for further information. And of course, we will keep this page updated with info as we receive it. *
