Lost and Jack's tattoos ... again

I'm not going to
assume this is something spoilery, since it's something that any observant watcher of the
past episode of
Lost could pick out. In
the scene with Jack and his wife in bed,
Jack's tattoos are clearly not there. So,
clearly, whatever happened to Jack to cause him to get his arm tattoos was either the result of the divorce with his
wife or something later. I'm told that with an HDTV, you can pretty clearly see the makeup covering the spot where the
(real) tattoo should be. For another shot of the other arm, see below. [Thanks, Bob D.!]

The pictures are showing that there is NO tattoo there, Jack's character now has tattoos.

I brightened them up a bit to show you, even more clearly, that Jack's tattoos DO NOT APPEAR in the images, dave. That's the whole point!

Why are they (real) tattoos? That's confusing. Does Matthew Fox actually have the tattoos that we see every week? If not, why did they need to be covered up in the flashback scene?

Yes, Porchland -- the tattoo is one that Fox had before the show ever aired, though the writers have worked it into the show. We can only guess as to why they were covered up in the scene pictured above.

It's obvious that he had the tatoo and the writers have worked it into the show. I guess we will find out the meaning of the tatoo to Jack.
At least it's not as obvious as the numbers.

Actually, if you listen to the commentary of the pilot episode on the DVD, they tie the tattoo with the "5" into the thing where he cuts open the spinal membrane thing, and lets fear get to him, "but only for 5 seconds".
Just remembered that, and it doesn't really explain any of the other tattoos.

I was reading an article about lost in a magazine the other day and there was a full page of jack in shorts and vest and in the picture jacks tattoos are on his right arm but in episode 22 (the on I just watched)there on his left. this is similer to the clock being different in the promo and fits in with the theory that there is more then one timeline explaining the whispers.

The pic of Jack in the bed with wifey was a flashback and in that period of time he did NOT have tattoos yet. Maybe he got them after the divorce and was part of something to do with that..
The other one is on the opposite side of him....that's why no tattoos.
