CSI: NY - Wasted

Mac and StellaIt's not that I don't like CSI: NY because I do. I just don't like it as much as I used too. I still think Lindsay was a lousy addition to the cast and I'm getting kind of sick with the same format that the CSI franchise was built on: two cases and they solve them. I guess I just don't understand why the writers for CSI: Miami can have a case and still develop the characters own personal stories so well and yet the NY writers can't pull it off. Maybe they can, but I feel like they're just not trying. C'mon guys, branch out!

So in case you couldn't gather anything from that, last night's ep gave us nothing on Stella's budding romance, Danny's estranged brother, Lindsay's history from Montana (or was it Minnesota), or what I'm really dying for: more back story on Medical Examiner Sid Hammerback. Although he did try to hit on Stella which was hilarious.  All we did get was two cases... and they solved them. Go figure.

Case number one involved a few runway models who had been murdered. Mac and Doc Hawkes handled this one. Apparently it's in for designers who don't have the fashions done in time for the unveiling, to hire a body artist who can paint the clothing on to the nude bodies of the models. Please give me that job. Anywho, one model drops dead on the runway from apparent heart failure (according to Sid) and the other one is found near a loading dock and it appears someone hit her with a paint can. Just so happens the paint can is the same color paint that was on the body of dead model numero uno. Ooooh, a connection!

After examining the contents of the body paints, Hawkes and Mac determine that they're filled with lethal quantities of liquid ecstasy. Hence model number one's heart failure. The other model just got in the way of the jerk who was using the paint to ship the drugs so she took a can upside the back of her head.

The second case was far more enjoyable. A new-age medicine doctor is found murdered in an alley in front of her practice. Okay, normal so far. Until Stella and Lindsay find her body covered in leeches. The case seems closed when a patient of the deceased comes in and admits to Flack that he shot her, but Stella doesn't believe the guy. Turns out he has an incurable blood disease and he's going to die. But the guy's wife was sick of the doctor leading him on with all her promises of a cure, so she shot her and the husband tried to take the fall to save his wife because, hey, he's dying anyway.

So just like that, the cases were closed. This show can be a lot better but they really do need to take a page from the CSI: Miami playbook. Start weaving in an ongoing storyline and it'll instantly have more appeal.
