I tend to prefer episodes that focus on one case with some storylines regarding the main characters weaved
into it. It's not that I dislike it, but episodes that have multiple cases tend to suffer because the characters are
spread out. For the first new one of the year, this was a perfect blend. One interesting case coupled with the two main
recurring stories this season: Delko's sister and the mole who keeps leaking info to the press and D.A. Even better?
Those two stories collided. The main case dealt with a murder at quite the swank mansion. The place was owned by a guy who ran seminars for "confidence challenged" men. In essence, how to pick up ladies. One of his students gets ice-picked in the throat a few times and the CSI team gets called in. I don't want to dwell on this too much longer because a) while it was interesting, the culprit was easy to figure out, and b) the stories revolving around the CSI's were fantastic. The killer? A fellow seminar student. He caught the deceased trying to put the moves on his sister (she actually rejected him) but the brother didn't like what he saw so he took a few hacks at Casanova'a neck.
Moving on, Marisol (Delko's sister) gets busted for buying marijuana. Well, that's not a big deal right? It is if you buy more than an ounce because that indicates intent to distribute. Now, not that I know anything about buying marijuana (it's green right?), but to make a quick analogy... if Count Chocula is on sale, then I'm stocking up. Doesn't mean I'm gonna eat 6 boxes in one sitting, but it's nice to know you have some lying around. Right... so Marisol said she was buying for her whole group. If you recall, she has a rare form of leukemia and the smoking of the pot helps with the pain. She figured it might help some of the others in her coping group.
But the mole resurfaces! Before H and Delko can even talk about it, the state attorney knows that Marisol has been busted and makes it her goal to ensure that the lab gets hit when inspections roll around. So who could it be? Wolfe? Calleigh? Alexx? Or one of the lesser known lab techs? Whoever it is, they're a jerk face. Marisol ends up getting let off with a misdemeanor because three of the five baggies she bought were bunk. Not a trace of marijuana in them and the dealer she bought from confirmed it. However, the state attorney is still convinced that the lab, specifically Delko, tampered with the evidence. Oh and Wolfe is still dealing with the deterioating vision in his right eye. He's having trouble reading and was missing evidence on the floor right in front of him.
See, now this is why I still like CSI: Miami the best. Vegas and NY just aren't doing this much to create stories around the characters or even bothering to create a season long question like "who's the mole?" The other two are still very case driven each episode, though I think NY is trying to bust out of that.

My guess for the mole would be Valera, the current case DNA tech. Outside the main cast, she seems the least likely personality wise, but she did get suspended last year over a case and had all of her cases retested. I could see someone, like that jerk IAB guy, or someone else cutting a deal by saving her career in exchange for mole duty.
I certainly don't think it's the main cast. Horatio for the obvious reason of being the main target, Callie is just too trustworthy. Delco seems to be involved with of most of the problems that they are using against Caine. I don't think it's Wolfe, since he was the one that let the big bald detective (I forget his name) know that there was a mole in the lab.
The new DNA chick that works the old cases is a possibility, but that seems too obvious.

Granted, Miami is certainly setting itself apart from the other CSI shows, but this episode was annoying because of how it played fast and loose with the law. If this had happened in real life would a police officer's sister get so much preferential treatment? She broke the law, and while I may think the law is stupid, it's still the law. Yet, the law enforcement characters spend more time trying to get her out of trouble than they do enforcing the law. That annoys me and makes the show less realistic, in my opinion. Hell, Gary Sinise's character fired people for less than this.

Not really. Sinise's character (Mac) fired Aiden for actually tampering with evidence to ensure the conviction of a rapist. In this episode of Miami, no one tampered with evidence - they make it sound like it might have happened, mainly so the DA story can continue. But all H and Delko did was everyting they could to save the sister. It just worked out in her favor that the dealer was selling her junk. Made for TV, yes. But unrealistic? Not really.

Ok, so this is really silly- can anyone tell me the name of the dish that the Marisol character offers to make for Horatio at the end of the episode "The Score?" Thank you.

The dish Marisol makes for Horatio is "a mean ropa vieja", which I think means "old clothes" in Spanish. Gee, I hope it tastes better than it sounds! Hope this helps. :)

This paragraph sums up why I like Miami as the best of the three CSI's. Some complain it makes Miami into a soap opera, but the reality of "real life" is that personal matters are going to find their way into the work place. The fact that we're just now, after 6 seasons with the Vegas cast, finding personal tidbits about some of the characters is just absurd! We love these characters... we want to know more about them. That's what makes CSI. The characters we love solving the cases that keep us on the edge of our seats!
