Ted Koppel joining Discovery Channel

Ted KoppelTed Koppel has found a new home. The former Nightline anchor, along with eight of that program's old staff members, have teamed with The Discovery Channel to produce documentaries and other news specials. Koppel left Nightline back in November after 25 years, but he plans to continue pursuing his passion for news by covering global topics as well as producing other programming similar to what he's done in the past. Koppel was also in talks with HBO but stayed away because of it's association with entertainment and not news. Koppel said he wanted to produce some great programming at Discovery, because at ABC, only "about five percent [of Nightline episodes per year] were truly great." Koppel will be working on six programs a year for Discovery and we can expect the first one near the end of Summer 2006. I support this and all because I think it's great that he wants to keep on truckin', but does anyone actually watch The Discovery Channel other than pausing to watch the open-heart surgery while channel surfing?
