Last
month, Joel reported on an article
in Australia's Sydney Morning Herald which suggested that Futurama may be making a return to television. This
morning, America's own Variety magazine is reporting similar news. Although FOX refuses to confirm the report,
Variety says that strong DVD sales and high ratings for Futurama reruns have led FOX executives to
reconsider their 2003 cancellation of the animated program. Variety says that creator Matt Groening and writer
David X. Cohen are in negotiations with FOX to revive Futurama for television. In that article last month,
Groening and Cohen both said that they hoped to be in a similar situation to Family Guy, which was cancelled
by FOX but then brought back to life when DVD sales reached the fourth-highest ever for a television show.
Futurama had five seasons and three emmys. What do you think? Would you like Futurama to return to weekly television? And then there's always that rumor about a Futurama movie...

Not that Futurama was bad, but I don't really miss it. Whenever I am watching my Family Guy dvds I have no desire to stop after an epsiode and watch an episode of Futurama. In other words, I think their timeslot (adult swim) has a lot to do with its popularity.

Can Fox execs really admit they were wrong twice? This would be great but I think the move is motivated by the impending demise of the Simpsons as well as Futurama DVD sales.

I don't want Futurama back. Looking back at it and watching the re-runs for a long, long time...it sucked. And sucks in re-runs. It's nowhere near as funny as The Simpsons was and is about as funny as the new Simpsons episodes are now, hence why I can't watch either show anymore.
Family Guy was the right move and actually got good ratings, Futurama will be the wrong move and suck it up bad.

Didn't the Simpsons start to lose it mojo when Futurama premiered? Maybe Groening and Cohen put most of their efforts into Futurama.
Either way, Futurama is better than what the Simpsons has become, and it needs to be brought back.

Just say no to more Futurama.
The characters have run their course. Supposing, of course, that you enjoyed the characters in the first place.

Wow. I really disagree with some of these comments. I think Futurama is leaps and bounds better than Family Guy and it benefits from repeat viewings since the jokes are *generally* character based and not pop culture based. I would love to see it return and replace the crap that is "The War at Home" or whatever they show at 8:30 on Sundays.

don't get me wrong, i think family guy is hilarious. but as far as plot lines, animation, and especially character development, futurama is really amazing. it crosses the genre of "cartoon" and it's really a sitcom that just happens to be animated. and is really, really funny. i really hope they bring it back!

I love both "Family Guy" and "Futurama," but "Futurama" is infinitely tighter, smarter, and funnier than "Family Guy." Futurama was not only hysterically funny, but it had heart. It was brilliantly written and had an intricate mythology ("Roswell that Ends Well," "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid," "The Why of Fry,") that can be compared to "Lost" or "X-Files." And anyone who didn't get choked up by the ending of "Jurassic Bark" has no soul!A friend and I frequently lament the fact that FOX cancelled this consistently amazing show while so much crap still litters the airwaves. However, as Fry once stated, "Clever things make people feel stupid, and unexpected things make them feel scared." Judging from the comments, this show was much too clever and unexpected for its own good.

How is family guy funnier? It's filled with jokes that seem like they're written by a four year old. How's a fart joke so funny? The jokes in family guy are just stupid and repetitive. Futurama just never seemed to get old, all of its episodes were different and insanely funny and the characters were great, much better than Family Guy's. I mean come on who can compete with Professor, Bender and Zoidberg?

@ #12, have you actually watched enough Family Guy? I for one don't think so.
As for Futurama. Yes. Yes. One million times yes. Bring it back for another go around. We have to find out if Leela and Fry ever get together.
Futurama was filled with so many freeze frame jokes. You have to watch an episode multiple times to catch every hidden joke.
