Surface: Episode 11

Who would have thought that, just when Laura and Rich are so close to convincing the world that mysterious sea creatures do indeed exist in the oceans around the world, the person who could potentially screw up that disclosure and put their lives in danger would be...Keith Olbermann?!?

TV really is a different world now. It used to be that you would have a show where one of the characters would go on a fictional talk show for one reason or another, and that would be that. But now in this TV/internet world we live in, where every network has a site and every show has a page on that site, we can get incredible crosspromotion for the show on the site and even a guest appearance by one of the network's top anchors. Laura takes the video that she and Rich took in the diving bell, and she ends up being interviewed by a reporter on MSNBC's Countdown! At first it seems like a good thing, but then you realize she's the #1 story of the night, which means Olbermann is going to make a wiseass remark about her and the tape and then throw a crumpled up paper ball at the camera. She's ridiculed, but not before over 60,000 surfers download the video from msnbc.com.

Meanwhile, in a move that will delight half the audience (who love kids and little monsters) and piss off the other half of the audience (who want to see that little monster either die or eat the kids), Nim is alive! He's on ice and a little groggy, but he's alive. Miles and a cute girl go swimming in the aquarium after hours, until his boss finds him and fires him. Oh, and the boss is the girl's father. Oh oh. But that's not the most surprising thing. It seems that Miles can swim in the water for a long time and not get all wrinkly. And when he walks past the street lamps they flicker.

Maybe the creature bites and Nim licks (Nim licks?) are turning him into...wow, this is a plot twist I didn't see coming.

There are only four new episodes left this season, and the coming attractions promise more about what's happening to Miles, the truth about where these creatures come from, and another plot development: a mysterious voice that wants to help Laura and Rich.

But first next week we have to resolve the cliffhanger: Lee's henchmen are at the door. Rich is in the shower, and Laura is about to unlock the hotel door...
