The Best
- Eyes: One of the smartest, most stylish private eye shows to come along in years. So ABC cancels it quickly and doesn't even run the remaining episodes.
- Surface: The best of the sci-fi/horror shows (Threshold, Invasion, Supernatural) that debuted this year.
- The Daily Show: Always dead-on, always funny.
- Arrested Development: I don't know if this show is as funny as it used to be, but even at 90% strength it's better than most other comedies.
- Lost: I don't know if they'll ever have answers for all the questions, but the ride so far has been great.
The Worst
- Anything that has Nancy Grace, Pat O'Brien, or Star Jones in it: Self explanatory.
- Jerry Springer/Maury Povich: Ditto.
- Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy: The show that finally answers the question, is it true some people just should not be parents?
- Dr. Phil: This guy doesn't help people. He just spouts common sense slogans in a friendly accent, while creating a following like a cult leader (and doing damage to people by peddling his self help and diet books and telling parents on prime-time TV that their kid has all the signs of a serial killer).
- The O'Reilly Factor: Tries to come across as an honest investigative reporter looking out for "the little guy," when he's really a humorless prick who gets his facts wrong most of the time.
Best Performances: Tim Daly (Eyes), the casts of The Office, Arrested Development, My Name Is Earl, and Lost, Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Brian Austin Greene (Freddie - he's actually funny).
Sophomore Slump: Desperate Housewives
Best Show I've Never Seen: Battlestar Galactica (I'm guessing)
Surprisingly Good: Bones
Suprisingly Bad: The Apprentice: Martha Stewart
Best Thing on SNL: that Narnia rap
Worst Thing on SNL: Um, most everything else
Shows So Bad They Make Me Physically Ill Now: Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, Extra, and Access Hollywood.
Best News: Bob Schieffer, Anderson Cooper, Keith Olbermann, Hurricane Katrina coverage, Jeanne Moos, CNN's Your World Today
Worst News: Hannity and Colmes, Nancy Grace, Bill O'Reilly, Paula Zahn, The Situation Room, Larry King, the death of Peter Jennings
Most Underrated: Still Standing
Most Overrated: Invasion
Show Most In Need Of A Cameo By A Friends Cast Member: Joey
The "Please Outlaw Reality Shows" Award: Being Bobby Brown
Worst Remake: The Night Stalker
Best Workplace: any company on daytime soaps. I mean, you can kill someone, do a bad job, or just take a ton of time off in the middle of the day to go off to talk to someone or have sex and you still won't get fired.
Worst Workplace: APO on Alias. I mean, making Sydney run and jump and fight on an airplane and shoot guns when she's about to have a kid?

I'm still pissed off at ABC for canceling Eyes, as well. The episodes that never aired in the US were aired overseas, if you look in the *usuall places* you can find them.

'Eyes' was good, and I get the feeling ABC knows it and will do all in their power to keep it from coming out in DVD form so that everybody can see how great the whole package could have been.
Best show not seen by most of America is the revival of 'Doctor Who'. It's in the "usual places" if you want to seek it out.
I hope Dr. Phil doesn't gain a cult for himself. I can just imagine them all ten years down the road, wearing the purple sneakers and drinking the kool-aid to hop a ride on the Comet Oprah.

Yeah thank God for Bit Torrent and some smart New Zealander for letting me see the rest of the episodes of EYES...ABC can go to hell...I mean at least offer then on Itunes for 99 cents. I'm sure there are more eps of Night Stalker that were completed too.
And where is the DVD? Even Wonderfalls got the same treatment on broadcast got their DVD box set. (a GREAt show too)
I hope in 2006 someone can explain to me how come all the good shows get cancelled within 4 episodes while crap is still playing....PLEASE!

Ditto w/ the Eyes love. I was astounded at it's ill treatment compared to, imho, a much inferior show, Grey's Anatomy. If they'd have given Eyes half the time, they gave that slapstick soap opera, Eyes might have come out on top.
Although, because you might have to engage and think a little while watching Eyes to catch all the good stuff, I might be asking too much of the don't-make-me-think-too-hard crowd.
Additionally, I think Threshold got the axe too soon while the Close to Home is being foisted upon us unto death.
And what about Kitchen Confidential?! That's the most hilarious sitcom since AD and Scrubs.

I was never able to get into Eyes; maybe it's because I'm not a big Tim Daly (of course, I'm not a fan of anyone who came out of Wings).
How many times do we have to tell you to watch Battlestar Galactica? Rent the DVDs, catch up, take the ride.
Agree with your Best News list with the exception of Anderson Cooper. Now that Hurricane Katrina news has passed, he just another boring pretty face. CBS would do better to keep Bob Schieffer around instead of paying $30 million a year for Katie Couric; although, I hear he's not interested in a full-time nightly news job.
Completely agree with your assessment of Still Standing and Invasion. Still Standing is not a great show, but it is consistently funny and pulls in good ratings on a competitive night. I've grown so tired of Invasion's constantly changing focus I may not watch the show when it returns. As to Joey, I seriously doubt even a Friends visit would help -- it's just not that good a show. The only way it's returning from "hiatus" is if Will & Grace and Four Kings are a bust.

I'm suprised there was no mention of Scurbs, the previous season was the best yet, not to mention NBC was stupid for postponing the show till mid season this year.
