The fourth season of The Shield was great and arguably better than it should have been
because of the additions of Glenn Close and Anthony Anderson. The performances put forth by both of them really made the
season for me because everything else felt disjointed: the Strike Team was still in disarray and it just felt weird
having Vic and Shane constantly fighting. Dropping down from season three which had 15 episodes, season four returned
to the normal length of 13 which was disappointing but the fifth season is quickly approaching so I suppose they can be
forgiven.Similar to the past three seasons, this set doesn't contain too much in the bonus feature department. There's another documentary called "Under the Skin," which follows around the writers and actors doing their thing. It's honestly nothing special and was fairly similar to the documentaries that were included on the past sets. The 42 deleted scenes are great, especially if you watch them after their respective episodes because they almost always expand the storyline and clue you in on something important. Rarely are the deleted scenes just throw-aways that don't pertain to anything. The highlight for me were the episode commentaries, especially the ones which Anthony Anderson participates in. For those of you familiar with his work, the part of Antwon Mitchell was a bit out of character for him and he got to show his funny side in the commentaries. His ramblings on the commentary for the episode "Tar Baby" are laugh-out-loud funny. Worth looking into if you want to play catch up for season five, which premieres on January 10th at 10PM. You can look back here for Keith's review of the premiere later that night.
