This may just be the beginning of a very, very bad
trend. A bunch of guys in Texas decided to pull a prank on one of their more gullible buddies, using a TiVo as the
primary tool. What they did was record a previous lottery drawing, then buy a ticket with those numbers. They then told
the gullible friend to buy a ticket and come on over; somehow, they switched tickets with him at some point during the
night. So, when they decided to play the recorded lottery results (they told him that they TiVoed it earlier that
night), he thought he had the winning numbers. Look at this video and you'll
see how he reacted (there's lots of swearing here, so if you're at work, keep the audio down), and you'll see the pained
expression on his face as his buddies tell him what's up. Priceless.I don't know how the folks from the Today show found this video, but they've already had the whole gang up to New York for an interview, which was aired this morning (go to the show's web site and you'll see video of the interview on the front page). Matt Lauer seemed highly amused by the prank, as he should have been. But he didn't ask the one question I would have asked the "mark", Thad Toups: didn't he see the date on the top of the results screen? The lottery drawings usually show dates, to keep this kind of stuff from happening. I guess Thad was too excited -- or drunk -- to notice.

It would've been funnier had it been the Lost's numbers but still quite funny

I think one of the best parts is how excited the dog gets. Obviously it's just reacting to everyone else's excitement, but I know if it was me in that room the dog jumping, everyone yelling and going crazy.. it'd all make me totally buy into it and ignore the date. What I don't get is that usually they say stuff like "today's drawing, thursday january 8" or whatever... Still, this is one of those good, authentic, really-got-him kind of jokes. Kind of sucks for the dudes who weren't in on it though, this is kind of a multi-person prank

i don't know Thad or anything, but i heard that the guys conveniently checked the winning lotto numbers later that night... so all that had to be seen was a freeze frame (properly chosen by Haas) from the TiVo'ed drawing.
classic.
check out www.dallasmontage.com for the full story. (including all the emails leading up to the prank and inside info. on the NY trip)
