Bo Bice is having a busy time of it lately. He had a new baby boy last month, he had major surgery and then ended up back in
the hospital with complications from the
surgery, and on top of that, our own Anna Johns thinks he's one cool cat. As if that weren't enough for
one guy, his new album "The Real Thing" is being
released, and the singer is said to be "very excited" about it. As you no doubt know, Bice came
in second to American Idol winner Carrie Underwood (who, by the way,
was just named Oklahoman of the Year),
and there has been much speculation about whether Bice will pull a "Clay Aiken". Aiken, who placed second
behind Ruben Studdard in Season Two of Idol, has far surpassed
Studdard in album sales and fan base.
Not that Ruben was any slouch--his first album beat out Kelly Clarkson's debut, and his second album went to the top of the gospel charts--but Aiken still outsold him, and his fan club, the Claymates, are almost as obsessive as Harry Potter fans. Actually, perhaps more so -- if you really want to wear your heart on your, er, sleeve, you can actually buy a Clay Aiken thong.
I don't know if there's a Bo Bice thong out there, but he does have a fan base called The Bice Squad. Bice definitely seems poised on the edge of major success, and it's been a long time coming for the sexy singer, who's been performing since he was sixteen. When we talked to Bo's bandmates from Sugar Money, John Cooper and Shane Sexton, at the end of American Idol last season, Shane talked about Bo's upcoming solo effort, and how Bo would try to maintain control and artistic integrity. Bice says in the MSNBC story that he had "quite a bit of control" and "a lot of input" on his new album, so let's hope the end result rocks. Oh, and if you see a Bo Bice thong for sale out there, drop me a line...

I got Bo's CD for my wife. Only listened to it once, and I guess it's ok. It will have to grow on us. A little more poppy/dancy than I would have hoped. I liked his southern alternative style. For a better purchase, look for the Best and Worst collection which covers all 4 seasons and has video of him doing his acapella In a Dream, as well as very early in the competition doing "Whipping Post." Now that's what I'm talking about.

I love Bo's new CD - especially #11 "Valley of Angels" and all three songs on the back of the dual-disk (all four songs are his originals - and they rock)!

I have also purchased Bo's CD. I like it a lot! It is very different from the songs he performed on AI; however, to me, this just demonstrates Bo's versatility as an artist. The intent behind this initial CD is to get Bo's name out there and to gain new fans via airplay. We all know that southern rock would have a difficult, if not impossible, time finding a radio home. Likely, his second CD will reflect more of who Bo is as an artist, just as Kelly's sophomore effort has done for her. In the meantime, I am quite content with The Real Thing. If Bo does surpass Carrie in sales, unlike Clay Aiken, his sales with be "the real thing" and not the manufactured sales created by Aiken's rabid fan base.

I was given Bo Bice's new Album for Christmas, and what a Christmas it was. Getting Bo's Album was my highlight. I read the CD as it was playing his song "Valley of Angels" and I saw Bo thanking God and his mother and father. Being a father myself it made me love Bo more as an Artist and a person. Bo is a refreshing spice of talent that Rock N Roll has missed in a long time. God bless Bo in all he does..

Perhaps it would help Bo if he DID have a rabid fan base.

Comparing Bo to Clay is like comparing Clay to Justin. Coming in "second" says nothing. Clay is a success because he is good entertainer and singer with a unique style. Time will tell about Bo's success, but if his first and second weeks' CD sales are any indication he has a ways to go before catching up to Clay. I wish him well.

I am so glad that Clay a rabid fan base of almost five million fans... given that's how many CDs he has sold, both MOAM and MCWL. Oh, I forgot, we are all so rich that each of us bought 100,000 CDs each.
I wish Bo every success. I liked him on AI.

Bo's album is very enjoyable and every song could be a radio hit. There is a catch in every song that leaves me singing, long after I have turned off my cd player. On another note, I would prefer Bo Bice is not the next Clay Aiken. I would rather have Bo build slowly and solidly than have his fans skew the sales numbers with multiple copy buying. That leaves Clay's sales numbers not as impressive as they could be. Of course, they will take the money from whomever wants to buy, regardless of whether they are unique buyers or not!

I first want to say, i voted alot for Bo. I also know that he wanted people to let him know what they thought of his cd. Well, i was disapointed in it, it was just too pop for me. Don't get me wrong, i still love to hear him, i just want to hear alot more ROCK,from Bo Bice. I really feel i wasted my money, but i had said that i would buy the first one, the next one i will make sure it is ROCK, or i won't buy it. And the last thing i have to say, is that i don't know how you can compare Bo to Clay. Clay sucks big time as far as i am concern.

Every successful artist has a rabid fan base from The Dave Mathews Band to Eminem and U2. If you think that every CD they ever sold was to individual buyers than you are naive. The record company doesn't care. If you are upset about it go buy more Bo albums and give them to your friends but don't whine about how it isn't fair.

It would be nice to see Bo attain the success of Clay Aiken. I would like to see that and I wish him luck. However, to do so requires more than high album sales. What about Clay's SIX successful tours in the past 2 1/2 years? What about Clay's humanitatian work (UNICEF ambassador, McDonald's, Toys for Tots, and his own Bubel-Aiken Foundation for handicapped children)? What about Clay's numerous appearances on several TV shows? I don't think a few people buying multiple copies of Clay's cd's to give others as gifts is what has made him successful--he hasn't even had a new mainstream cd out for two years. A lot of people buy multiple copies of an artist's cd's to give as gifts. His accomplishments go much further than that because of his talent and hard work. Bo could probably attain success, too, if he works as hard. Maybe one should look at the reasons he has such a rabid fan base instead of always putting it down.

Obviously, from the comments here, some of Bo's fans are also Clay fans, and vice versa. No harm, no foul. But putting one artist down to lift another is not necessary. They each have their unique qualities and hopefully will continue to be successful in their own genres.

Will Bo Bice be the next Clay Aiken? Give me a break! That same question was asked about the second-place finisher in season 3 and will be asked about the second-place finisher every season for the next five years. The answer was 'no' and the answer will continue to be 'no.' It's not going to happen again, folks. Get used to it.

I enjoyed Bo very much on AI and I believe he is a genuine person. I wish him every success. Tomorrow my friend will play his new CD for me and I am anxious to hear it.
In regards to Clay Aiken's rabid fan base: I agree that he has one and it is because he is super talented and one of the most sincere and grounded performers on the scene today. His CD sales are fantastic, his tour atttendance figures are great, and I believe his next CD will be wonderful.
May Bo and Clay have long and successful careers. What is nice is that they each have their own unique style which appeals to varied groups. One's success does not take away from the other's.

I'm a Clay fan and have bought just 2 CD's - MOAM and MCWL. Why can't people accept Clay's sales stats without hyperventilating? As for Bo I think he is a very talented man and I wish him well. That Acapella song was brave and awesome.
