For those of you that didn't know, Barney, from How I Met Your Mother,
actually does have a blog.
The writers He writes to it pretty frequently, most of the time
twice a week, and whether they're show related or not, the posts are always quality. This past week, however, Barney
and I are having a little dispute. As you'll remember, I put a lot of research into my post last week about Barney's
"Get Psyched Mix" from the show;
painstakingly copying all of the songs off of a blurry, handwritten cd from the episode, solely for your enjoyment.
Then, Barney has to go and post an entirely different list of songs on his blog! So, while both take you to legendary
heights of psyched-ness, we'd like you all to tell us which one you think is better. Song lists and poll after the jump...
Blog Barney's Get Psyched Mix:
1) YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME - Jonathan B. Jovi
2) THE HUMPTY DANCE - Digital Underground
3) COME SAIL AWAY - Stix
4) DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' - Journey
5) THE TRANSFORMERS THEME SONG - O. Prime
6) YOU'RE THE BEST AROUND - Joe Esposito
7) HIGH ENOUGH - Damn Yankees
8) JESSIE'S GIRL - Rick Springfield
9) ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE - The Scorpions
10) HIP HOP HOORAY - Naughty by Nature
11) CHANGE OF HEART - Tom Petty
12) RUN AWAY - Slade
TV Barney's Get Psyched Mix:
1) I WANNA ROCK - Twisted Sister
2) YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME - BJ (Bon Jovi)
3) LICK IT UP - KISS
4) PARADISE CITY - GNR (Guns & Roses)
5) DANCING WITH MYSELF- Billy Idol
6) ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE - Scorpy (Scorpions)
7) PANAMA - Van Halen
8) TALK DIRTY TO ME - Poison
9) THUNDERSTRUCK - AC/DC
10) DR. FEELGOOD - Crue (Motley Crue)
11) ROUND AND ROUND - Ratt
Personally, while I am completely giddy about someone putting the Transformers theme on any kind of "mix", my vote has got to go to TV Barney's mix. Let me know what you think.
POLL CLOSED! Here are the results:

Even though I think the TV version you have listed is the much better mix, I have to doubt its validity. On the episode whenever Barney played the mix, "YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME" always played first, while in your supposed TV-version, it's the second track.

Though Blog Barney gets bonus points for Change of Heart by Tom Petty, TV Barney clearly runs away with this. C'mon, he's got Billy Idol, Van Halen, and Twisted Sister's best songs!
I did crack up when I saw the transformer theme though :P

God, TV Barney's mix is so much better it's not even funny. Maybe there were rights issues invlolved with putting those titles up on the blog. :)

tim -- Look at the screencap Ryan put up. It's pretty clear that track #1 is "I Wanna Rock".

Blog Barney loses me with too many slow songs.
Songs like COME SAIL AWAY and HIGH ENOUGH are too wussy and don't nearly rock out like the TV Barney's PARADISE CITY and PANAMA do. I am a huge Journey fan, so Blog Barney gets mad props for DON'T STOP BELIEVIN', but how can I get psyched to Joe Esposito, I don't even know who that is?

Alan, Joe Esposito's "You're The Best" is the training montage from Karate Kid. Although, I too have to pick the TV version, that song rocks. It's a bitch and a half to find (not on any soundtrack or cd) it is a very rockin song. I recently went on a quest to find that song and ended up having to order a cd from France to find it. Worth every cent and minute spent on it.
"You're the best, around. Nothin in the world can keep you down."
Oh yea, you train Daniel-san. You train away.

The only thing I like about Blog Barney's list is the Rick Springfield song, "Jessie's Girl". It voices a situation I could see Barney in.... only I doubt he'd agonize over it.

First off... Come Sail Away, Jessie's Girl, and ANYTHING by Tom Petty have NEVER gotten ANYONE psyched.
Rock you like a hurricane should be #1, that song ROCKS.
Tim, just go home, Barney laughs at you.
High Enough is an awesome song, but not psych-worthy.
Here's my Poon-worthy get psyched mix:
#1 ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE - Scorpy
#2 YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME - BJ
#3 YOU'RE THE BEST AROUND - Joe Esposito
#4 IT'S A NEW GAME - NFL THEME SONG (Ryan rocks)
#5 WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE - GNR (Ryan still rocks)
#6 THUNDERSTRUCK - AC/DC
#7 DR. FEELGOOD - Crue
#8 ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE - Scorpy (It's just that good)
#9 CONFUSION (Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix) - New Order (From the Blade soundtrack, if you hear it, you'll know)
All rise baby, ALL rise.

Wow, look at all the mad love for Joe Esposito. I had no idea. Maybe tvsquad should track him down to relay how 'psyched' his music makes his fans. All this talk makes me wanna go train, and sweat, and get really good at something in a very short amount of time. WHOO!

#1 on my own "Get Psyched" back in the day was Van Halen's cover of "You Really Got Me". Yes, *I know* there are better VH songs to pick from, but there was always something about that opening riff.

Geez... Remind me never to take a roadtrip with this guy. They both look terrible. At least the blog list is a little less predictable, so I guess I'll go with that.

There are four more songs on the mix cd from the show. I can see four songs written on the inside of the cd in the scene where barney just realizes not moby took his mix. Unfortunately, I cannot make out what those four songs are. Anyone with a better TV that can make them out? I'm hoping one is Danger Zone from the Slutty Pumpkin episode....that would be sweet.
BTW...the blog version is definitely NOT all rise, baby!

so basically, take the TV mix, switch the order of "i wanna rock" and "you give love a bad name", subtract the AC/DC b/c they're not on itunes, add "don't stop believin" and "danger zone" and you have one LEGENDARY mix

Well done!
I prefer the TV-Mix, but i would change it the way it was in the episode: BJ as the first song. That does rock most and its in line with the show.
The Mix from his blog is totally crappy.

The blog mix is more eclectic and comedic.... but the TV mix is definitely more "all rise". I say take the TV mix, add the heavy metal version of the transformers theme (the one from the original movie soundtrack), the Joe Esposito track, the Journey track, the Slade track, "MR. ROBOTO" from Styx instead of "Come Sail Away", "Baby Got Back" by sir Mix-A-Lot instead of either of the rap tracks, and THEN... oh, then.... THEN you REALLY get PSYCHED.
