You can relax--you're not the only one who finds Paris Hilton annoying as hell. Shirley Temple-Black and Shirley
MacLaine have both come out lately slamming the pet-rotating heiress. First MacLaine stepped up to the mat when someone suggested she
is an icon. "Oh, hell, they're calling Paris Hilton an icon", MacLaine shot back. "It doesn't mean
a thing to me."
MacLaine went on to blast Hilton for having the audacity to call herself an "actress", pointing out it took seven years for screen legend Bette Davis to earn the cred to have her name above the title on the screen. Damn straight, Shirley.
Temple-Black, in a decided departure from her oh-so-sweet dimpled and ringleted child star persona, also stepped into the ring to deliver a resounding verbal bitch-slap, saying that people like Paris are "stealing the thunder from really talented actresses." Amen on both counts, Shirleys. It's about time some old-Hollywood blood stepped up to the plate to deliver a smackdown to Hilton, whose biggest talent seems to be acquiring new pets and getting rid of old ones.

Forget old Hollywood blood, where are the great current generation actors in all this? I wonder if they see the creeping of "marketed celebrities" as a threat or just a niusance. I mean, it's difficult to imagine Paris stealing roles from Oscar-winning actresses or something, but when people like her start getting real screen time I do start to worry a bit that things have gone too far.
Still, it is good to hear that people in the 'biz' find her just as offensive :)

Having Shirley Maclaine say that is like the slap you described. But, on the other hand, having the most famous and greatest child stars of all time, with a face more famous than anyone in movie history with the exception of Mickey Mouse say that, was like Godsending you into the "lake of fire and sulphur".
It is not like Shirley Temple to make comments about anyone, so I fear our most famous living actress on earth is sealing Paris Hilton's fate.
And besides, with all that Paris Hilton jazz going on, and the multi-million dollars associated with her...she is nothing compared to the tens of billions of today's equivalent dollars Shirley temple moved. Half of the motion picture industry hinged on her.
So as far as I'm concerned, Shirley Temple hath spoken.
