I
haven't watched Nip/Tuck since the second episode of the first season, but I did tune into the big season
finale the other night to see who the Carver was. I like who it turned out to be - and the whole thing with him being
tied to the bed was a nice touch.
But there's something I don't understand (and Ryan is the same way): if Kit is in on it, why did she shoot Quentin? Why didn't she just walk into the room where he was with Sean and Christian tied up and just let Quentin finish the job? What was the point in shooting him? Except, of course, to fool viewers and provide another twist at the end?
Anyone have any thoughts about it?

During the last scene, Kit and Quentin argue over this, and Kit says she showed up at the arranged time. She blames him for not finishing the job before she got there, as he was in full-on criminal mastermind monologue mode. So really, Quentin just screwed up.
TV characters would never behave irrationally just to provide a plot twist. They're just like you and me.

Well, she didn't shoot him. It was staged. In the body bag he was wearing a bullet proof vest that looked like he had a stage prop gunshot wound thing. Right? So it seems like they did it so they could get away cleanly.

Nip/Tuck Season 3 Finale Plothole No. 133 - Why the fake death?
I felt like I was watching Mad Tv or SNL when Kit said, "So you see it couldn't have been Quentin, for he has no penis".
I half expected her to continue, "I just don't think that Julia could've done this. Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't carve their husbands, they just don't!"

Okay, ya wanna know why Quentin didn't finish the job?
How would next season work out if Christian didn't have a hand...or worse if both doctors were dead.
If I had my way, I would have saved the carver for the end of the series and have had him kill off one or both doctors.

I may just be echoing the comments above... but she "shot him" so that everyone would go, "Whew, the Carver is dead."
Without him being "shot" , he faces trail and has to go to jail.
No offense Bob... but if you "haven't watched Nip/Tuck since the second episode of the first season", please don't comment on the show. It only results in the explanantion of obvious answers.

I agree, they staged it to make a clean get away. If they had killed Sean and Christian (never mind that the show would be over) the cops would still be looking for him. By leaving them and making it look like Quentin was killed they just might get to go somewhere else and start over. They just didn't count on Sean not being able to let it go as usual.

As great as this show is, it does often require you to suspend disbelief every so often. How fortuitous that Quentin was the guy Sean and Troy hired to help them out with the practice when they needed it. Gee, no cop or medical person noticed the lack of blood from Quentin's gunshot wound or that his heart was still beating? And why exactly did Sean and Troy need to go to Maine again? The way Sean and Troy were squirming to get out of their ropes as Quentin was taking to them made me think I was watching the Riddler gnashing his hands over capturing Batman and Robin. But it's the camp of this show that makes it so much fun to watch. I believe Ryan Murphy, the guy who created the show and wrote many of them is leaving to do movies full time so others will be the show runners. Could effect the quality.

I'm glad they showed us who the carver is, let's face it there are enought show out there that hold out a carrot for to long (Lost First season for example, nice to watch but main story takes forever). As why this endig ? They wanted an ending with the carver out of the picture but still near the picture. So next season they can bring back the murdering siblings or not just as they like.
Some things
+ Dead Carver -> not long, this maybe worked for the getaway to Spain but now there should be a hunt for them. Because nor corpse means no funeral no closed case ! I think it was a nice way to make a getaway plot and still have a face to face between our two guys and the carver. Even if it's unrealtistic as hell. Maybe the Nip/Tuck writer should watch 1-2 Epsisodes of CSI/NCIS and see what is done with a Dead Body. The body spleen temp..... must hurt if you are alive ;)
+ Why the trip to main -> i just think they explaind it badly. Just let's say 1-2 days after the shooting it becomes kown that the body of the carver is and that Det. Kit is not to be found. So our two Heros add one and one toghter and decide to check up the story they got from Kit.
+ Kit's story: let's explain it with. "We are a pair of serial murders that got away with it for some years (?) they for shure didn't start ind Florida (or ?) and it's getting boring so let's spice up the thing and help the good guys by pointing them in the right direction."
+ Personally i like it when all is turned upside down. Shure at the first moment i'm a little disappointed also (for example if they rely loose Kimberly i rely would hate to loose this "Ten"). But on the other hand such big changes open up the way for new people and story lines. (unfortunally also for old ones "Our happy couple getting back togehter").

i have been watching nip tuck all season and i must say this season has been a severe dissapointment. i feel that the show just sort of ran out of ideas. while i did like the final scene between julia and sean (what does the baby have? and why did season 1 and season 3 end with baby related questions) the whole carver plot line has been dragging for an entire season. the fact that quientin doesn't have a penis was just one more stupid/pointless addition to the show. the show needs to get back to its base: sean/julia relationship and troy sleeping around. and don't even get me started on matt. possibly the most boring plotline on any show this year.

I enjoyed the finale as an experience but hated the way it was written (at least from the carver standpoint. The Matt stuff has been outstanding all season and the Kimber/Christian stuff all worked very well).
Everything about Quinten and Kit was nonsensical and set up entirely for the audience rather than for the characters and I hate when shows do that.
It's a sign of weak writing.
Every part of Kit & Quinten's plan had to assume that they knew exactly how everyone would act in every situation. Why arrest and harass Liz? Why attack Gina? Why explain everything about each other to Sean and Christian?
And how did Kit get assigned to the case? How did she stay on the case after being attacked? How is she the worst interviewer ever?

Well, for all of you who posted explaining that Quentin "didn't really get shot" and "if he killed the docs the show would be over," um, yeah, I know that, that's my point. I'm talking logically, why would Kit shoot Quentin, if only for the viewers to be conned a certain way and for the big twist to come in the end? In other words, it seems like a contrived ending to me.
Kit should have just let Quentin finish the job on Sean and Christian and then shot him, etc.

Kit couldn't let him finish the job...because then the show would be over. The show is about those two doctors and their lives. Without them, there is no show.

@Jadon (Post 10): You made a very good point with what you said about the "Quinten and Kit - for the audience and not for the chars" thing!
@Gordon: The stuff BlowJob Penis stuff is explained during this last episode by Quinten. Something like "Paid her 100 Bucks, Wanted to be one of they Boys, Wanted to be like all the others."

Come on people,
Remember this is not real life; we're talking about a bunch of people who live in our minds doing the things we all dream about. Every man watching this show wants to bed all these lovely young women and all the women want to be chased after like that.
It's a show about fantasy and fun, that's it. Knowing that, how can you expect to make sense out of everything that happens to these characters or even read too much into what's to come. For instance why did Ava just stroll off into the sunset last season and not get carved? After all she was someone who definitely deserved it. Better yet, why didn't the Carver turn out to be Mrs. Grubman, the patient who threatens to sue because Sean left instrument inside her, but really just wants more (free) surgery and too sleep with Christian? Or it could have been crazy Nannette who wanted surgery before her high school reunion? After all, those two would have made better sense instead of the ending that was shown last night. But reality is, this show isn't about “our reality” and what makes sense, it's about the unusual and inconceivable reality of these characters.
One bit of advice, if your going to watch next season, check your "brain" at the door and just enjoy an hour of TV where you can laugh at the improbability of it all and can’t wait for next weeks episode !!!

I thought that was a great finale, one of the best because it wrapped all of the big questions up and started another story line--
1. Julia and Sean are back in the house together again and with a baby on the way.
2. Christian will probably fight for Kimber, while she's got new religion and hates everything about beauty. He's now chasing her. Nice twist.
3. The Carver and his sister are on vacation and will reappear sometime later in the show. Perfect. This was a good story line and would hate to see it go.
4. Both doctors know that Kit is Quentin's sister and is somehow related. I'm sure this will be followed up.
At the same time, our questions are answered:
- Quentin is the Carver
- Kit is related (she's a b*tch too), so finally we know why
- Matt stops acting like a spoiled kid and finally acts decently
- The White Supremist father gets shot
- The FBI has investigated the spa for "weird" purchses, so you know the truth about the facial cream will come out
