Maybe it's me. Some people are addicted to these things and will watch them regularly even if they've seen the same one dozens of times. "Set it and forget it" anyone? A few weeks ago, Joel wrote that nothing good is on Saturdays anymore. And the same goes for Sunday during the day and most weekday late nights. If it isn't football or golf, it's paid programming. Kitchen appliances, exercise machines, and household tools. Call today, three easy payments, blah blah blah. Please kill me.
If I was a five year old and didn't know any better, I'd assume that Ron Popeil was our President and that Jack LaLanne was his VP. As long as we're at it, Chuck Norris and Tony Little could be co-Secretaries of Defense and the country is going to fall if we don't all own an elliptical machine.
Here's something that freaks me out. When I was younger, I used to love Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. They were always on when I got home from school. Infomercials were always on at that time of day too. And you know what? I can barely remember an episode of either of those cartoons, but I can clearly picture Jake in a hot-pink unitard, trying to sell me one of his Body by Jake exercise contraptions.
Go ahead and scan your TiVO menus right now - infomercials are all over the place. And we all get sucked into them so stop lying to yourself - you know what I was referring to when I said "set it and forget it" earlier. We all do and I hate it. Anyone got some creative suggestions on how we can get rid of the Popeils and LaLannes of the paid programming world?

I have to agree...if you don't have cable and don't watch sports (except the Browns on Sunday!), weekend TV is a vast wasteland. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we watch *commercials* to pay the networks' bills?
