CSI: NY - Trapped

CSI: NYAs I mentioned in one of my other posts a day or two ago, I think this show has gotten a lot better since the removal of Aiden and addition of Lindsay. That doesn't mean I like Lindsay. I don't, she seems way too out of place. But the shuffling has opened it up for Mac, Stella, Danny, and now Doc Hawkes. Last night's episode had the two best cases of the season so far. A stripper who likes wrestling in KY-Jelly is found cooking on a giant spotlight and a crazy bazillionaire (I know it isn't, but that should be a number) is discovered murdered in his bedroom.

The stripper story, while good, was the easiest to clear up. Mac and Hawkes took the call. Lindsay tagged along and most of the time looked like a lost puppy. The stripper is stuck to a spotlight and her flesh is all bubbly and charred. After they peel her off, Hawkes brings her in to another new M.E. at the morgue (where was Sid? I liked him). The new guy, Tommy Pino, was apparently on sabbatical (how convenient) and he likes to wear a NY Giants jersey under his scrubs. Hawkes checks the spotlight for trace and finds some small pieces of amber (as in Jurassic Park, chock full of mosquitoes and dinosaur blood amber).

According to the strip joint owner, he had been dating the stripper but she was cheating on him. He found out because her picture was on a cheaters website. It had been posted by another woman. The other woman was a photographer and went to a lot of exotic places. The same places where you might be able to buy a necklace with a piece of amber as the jewel. She was jealous that her ex had gone back to the strip joint owner so they got in a fight and she pushed her on the spotlight. Simple.

The second case was way better. Stella and Danny checked out the rich guy's murder at his mansion. While perusing the bedroom, Danny flicks a light switch. Only problem? It wasn't a light switch and the panic room doors quickly slam shut. So Danny is trapped in the room with a limited supply of fresh air and a rapidly decaying body. It was incredibly interesting to watch him use all sorts of random household items to improvise his crime kit. In the meantime, Flack gets in touch with the locksmith who installed the panic room door. He starts drilling, but says it may take 13 hours to get the door off. Just about everyone was a suspect: the bodyguard, the personal doctor, and the housemaid. The doctor gave Hunter (that's the dead guy) daily hypno-therapy sessions to deal with his depression. The maid even went to the doctor. Hypnosis helped her quit smoking... or did it? Stella and Danny's collaboration pays off and they realize the maid wasn't doing it to quit smoking. She was learning how to hypnotize people. And she hypnotized Hunter into slashing his own throat.

But Danny found a secondary blood donor in the bedroom, so the maid must have had a partner in the crime. This is where the episode really threw me for a loop and surprised me. While Stella was interrogating the maid, her phone rang. It was some dance song. But earlier, the locksmith's phone had been ringing in front of Stella and he had the same song. Said he got the same one as his girlfriend. So they were in it together. Now it seems painfully obvious that it was him - he was the only person left. But at the time, I thought nothing of it.

Remember a few episodes ago, when Danny's cell rang, and it was Coldplay's "Talk?" That was just some cheesy promotional thing to hype the song because you could download it off the website after the show. So when the locksmith's phone rang, I thought it was the same type of thing and completely disregarded it. So it genuinely surprised me. Anyone else get caught off guard?
