Not sure if you've heard who shows up on tonight's show, so why don't we immediately go to the second page and start the review, shall we?
[MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW]
That was a rather odd opening, eh? It's like nothing ever happened! Vaughn comes home with a bag of groceries, Syd is getting water for tea, and everything seems cool. Until we hear the creepy voices coming from the radio and then see the reality - Syd in a contraption, with electrodes on her temples, about to get an injection from "someone" who wants answers. Who is the person behind the mirror, the one who is disguising his voice? The plot thickens!
Meanwhile, in San Francisco, Kelly kills an agent and gains access to a facility that is storing...Michael Vaughn's files! She steals the server with his files on it (aftering killing another agent), calls Dr. DeSantis (the older guy from the box who pretended to be Renees' long lost dad a few episodes ago) to tell him. He says their "benefactors" will be pleased.
Syd is three weeks away from giving birth, but she could give birth any day.
Marshall is looking through some files and finds out that Thomas Grace used to be married for three years. Not sure we're they are going with that little plot point, if anywhere.
Jack gives out this week's assignment: to find the missing Vaughn files (and files of other dead agents) and find out why Kelly and Prophet 5 wants them. Kelly and her cohorts listen to one of Vaughn's reports and finds out that Syd probably knows were "Horizon" is. They've been searching for it for 30 years. Hmmm...
We see how Syd was kidnapped. Renee tries to save her. She doesn't, but shoots DeSantis and the driver of the van.
Later, a clever scene: we see Syd and Vaughn on the plane, when Vaughn proposed to Syd, right before they jumped into Russia to destroy the giant red ball in the sky. This was a good scene. At first I thought, "oh, this is part of Michael Vartan returning, a flashback?" But it's not a flashback, it's a reenactment; at first it looks like it's going to go exactly as it did before, but then Syd tells Vaughn he has already proposed, she already knows about Prophet 5. Ha!
APO finds out that Syd has been kidnapped. Sloane calls his mysterious bosses and pleads for them to help him rescue her. But they refuse.
Renee has DeSantis tied in a chair. Jack comes in and threatens to torture him. Or should I say "starts torturing him," cutting off vital body parts. ("The suit shouldn't scare you...what you scare you is that I'm a very concerned father.") Jack and Renee find out that they have something planned for Syd in 3 weeks...her due date! [Insert ominous music here]
The mysterious voice tells the man fiddling with Syd's mind that he wants Syd to draw him a map of SD-6. Syd flashes back to a time when she and Vaughn looked a map over. She looks at the map and tells doc and the mysterious voice the info they need. And then we see...[Major Spoiler Follows!]
HOLY CRAP! The mysterious voice isn't a man at all...it's Irina! Lena Olin is back! And she's working with Kelly?! Whaaaaa?
Um...gulp. Anyway, Jack and Renee find a nursery in a home in Hungary. Looks like it was set up for Syd's baby! Meanwhile, Syd stabs Kelly with a needle and escapes...but she's on a large ship in the middle of nowhere.
Good episode, even if I still find it odd that they brought Michael Vartan back for just a hallucination/memory plot? (I still refuse to believe Vaughn is dead - I think they're planning something big here - did you notice the doctor touching the cup in the hospital scene? How he told Syd that he has to drink the "water" slowly? Heh.). Some really clever scenes, some good mystery involving the baby and the bigger Alias picture, and it's just really good to see Vartan back in any capacity. Plus that out of the blue, jaw-dropping revelation at the end!
Now we have to wait 2 or 3 months for the next episode? Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!

It seems since this season is the last they are pulling out all the stops. While Vartan wanted out, they defintely left the door open for him to return and it looks like he's walking through since it's officially the last season. It makes sense that Syd's mom is the head of Prophet five, considering she was responsible for Vaughn's dad's death and he's been tracking prophet five all along. I think it was obviously emphasized in the episode that the drink that doctor gave vaughn caused his "death", not the numerous bullet wounds he endured. Everyone says "how can vaughn be still alive after taking all those bullets?" but it's obvious the bullets didnt matter but the drink did. If you go back and listen to what Vaughn says in the dream sequences, it's also obvious that he's not dead. It seems more like he removed himself (or someone did) from Sydney's life to somehow get to the bottom of prophet five so that eventually he and syd can lead that normal life. It's an obvious message by the writers in my opinion. Also the closed casket during vaughns funeral in the previous episode was a giveaway. I feel bad for those who abandoned Alias after Vaughn's "death" because this season is shaping up to be the best since the second season. And what a midseason cilffhanger! Very cool episode. Any thoughts on Vaughn?

I so agree... I noticed the cup & the doc. Nowhere have they said the words Vaughn is dead, he's always "gone". And how he kept saying they'd find each other, we always do.... It seems to me that they faked his death to get to the bottom of it. They make it seem like he's just out of town or something; like when she was in the baby store and the woman asked if her husband was being helpful, she didn't say, no he's dead, she said he wishes he could do more.

I DO NOT think Vaughn is dead...true, they do keep saying "he's GONE" not he's dead, but he's "gone". Since this is the last season, they cant just kill Vaughn... that would RUIN the entire show. I think I've heard of the Horizan somewhere in another ALIAS episode. One of the previous seasons. If you remember in the 1st season, they accused Syd of being the "Chosen One". Well, they proved that she isnt by letting her see the sight Rambaldi described in the profecy. She CANT be te chosen one but the keep refering to her as the Chosen One. I think Irena is the Chosen One. AND Vaughn told Syd, the Chosen One and the Passenger (Nadia) will fight and neither will survive. I wonder when that will take place? The cradle (in that abandoned house) and everything for Syd's baby kinda creeps me out... Also, I CANT BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE TO WAIT TILL MARCH FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!!! Grrrrrrrrrr!!! Ahhhhhhhhh!

Maybe the daughter is the choosen one?
Loved the reenactments, they were the best part of the show, especially the one from S3 when they were in the prison ("we always find each other") and the scene from early S1 where we see the map, which played a rather important bit.
Didn't expect to see Olin back this early... I guess not being spoiled is a positive sometimes.
Midseason cliffhanger?? What is this, Lost??? :)

Since the moment Vaughn "died" I never believed it. I mean seriously, nobody survives those bullets. But its freaking ALIAS! Hello? How many times has Irina "died"? Emily? I could continue but I wont. Not only that but we didnt see him die, remember? The doctors rushed in and closed the blinds. Never saw him in the casket... OMG and the water? Hello?!
Oh and one more thing, supposedly the reason Vartan left was because of the "tension" between the actors. If he can return for a "dream (or whatever you call it)" then that excuse is shot to hell.
