Doesn't Ed seem like a natural for DVD release? Four years of shows, a strong fan base, a recent show, a show lots of people would love to see on DVD (like me and Jonathan).
According to the fantastic Ed fan site Stuckeyville.com, the hold up could be the same thing holding up the WKRP In Cincinnati DVDs: music rights. It's always a chore - usually an expensive chore - to get the OK to use the songs on TV shows, and especially to use them again on a DVD release. Remember when WKRP went into syndication and they changed all the rock music to generic music? Ugh. I'd rather see Ed never released than taking out all the cool songs.
OK, I don't really mean that, but still! I just want Ed on DVD, with all the music, damn it! In a funny coincidence, I came across this odd placeholder page at Amazon.com.

In retrospect, Ed would've followed a show like Scrubs perfectly. Heck, Tom Cavanaugh even played JD's older brother.
TBS replayed the whole series but didn't advertise it, or even replay it for those who got caught in the middle. Ed episodes are even difficult to find to download. The people who have them on tape don't have the knowledge or time to encode them digitally.
If a Ed DVD set comes out, I'd like to see outtakes, behind the scenes, interviews, a look back, "around the town," (some footage of the town they filmed in, Jersey(?)) and pranks. The cast members always mentioned on talk shows that pranks were previlant on the set.

In fact TBS played it through two times, and was on of the first shows I DVRed. It was great, and sweet, and was an awesome lead into the west wing. A pallatte cleanser between all the craziness of the day and the smartness (not even a word, but I dont care), and seriousness of the west wing. Ed, Carol, Molly, Dr. Mike And Phil Stubbs I will miss you all.
