Earlier today I was perusing some of the recent Festivus posts written by my fellow TV Squadders (saying that makes me giggle) and I came across Anna's Festivus Wishes. After reading through it, she had some really great wishes: renew My Name is Earl, give Kate and Sawyer a chance to get naked, have some faith in Scrubs, and kill off someone on CSI: like Nick Stokes. Wait a second, kill off Nick Stokes? Christ on a bike, was I amazed. How could you want to kill off Nicky?
I couldn't even comprehend the show without him. Then... well, I thought about it all evening. And now I'm convinced that Anna has some strange kind of TV insight because I agree 100%. That's right, killing off Nick Stokes would be the best thing to happen to CSI: right now. Crazy you may say? Perhaps it is a bit drastic, but methinks the program could use a little pot stirring and here's why:
- Did we all forget about last year's season finale? We practically watched him die once already. A second time wouldn't be half as bad and it'd probably be a lot quicker too; none of this time consuming buried-alive junk. My point being that I was already prepared to see Nick die halfway through the finale last year. I was already imagining a CSI: world without him. And you can't blame me. Tarantino directed it, anything could have happened.
- You have to admit, the show has gotten a bit static. If I was a completely new viewer, had never seen an episode before, and you then had me watch an episode from season one and another from season five, what would I say? "Well, the guy in charge grew a beard..?" At a glance, not much differentiates the seasons besides the opening credits and Grissom's beard. Solution? Kill people.
- Greg needs a bigger role. Everybody loves Greg and once the producers figured that out, he's been upgraded every season. More screen time, more responsibility. He also provides a majority of the comic relief. With Nick out of the way, Greg gets the attention his character really deserves.
- CSI team members get killed or fired in Miami and NY, so why not Vegas? Speedle got shot in the season premiere of CSI: Miami last year, and Aiden got fired in the second episode of CSI: NY this year. And you know what? Last year's Miami was the best season so far, and NY is shaping up to be great this year. All because they shook things up a bit. CSI: is in it's sixth season now, something needs to change.
- Who wants a moustache ride? Nick grew that facial explosion for two whole episodes and thank god he got rid of it last week. But the threat remains. He could grow it back and I don't know if I can just sit around and let that happen.
So who's with me? Plenty of seats on the bandwagon... the bandwagon at the end of Nick Stokes' funeral procession. Sorry man, love the show, but it's time for a change.

Nick and Sara add nothing to the show. However, like I've said in other posts, I'd rather kill off Sara.
Warwick is katherine's pet project. Remember, they almost hooked up last season.
Sara is Grissom's pet project. I still think these two will get together.
Greg is everbody's little buddy.
Nick really has no ties to anybody. Killing him off might bug Warwick as they tend to work together but I still don't see Nick's death shaking up the show.
If the rumour is true that William Petersen wants to leave at contracts end, perhaps a conflict between Nick and Warwick could start up as the battle for Katherine's spot as she'd obviously be promoted.

I so agree with Greg needing a bigger role. Frankly, I've grown tired of Grissom's character (shocking as that is). Everyone insists he is the heart of the show and yet the best episode of this season was the one where he wasn't in it.

I don't know about Aiden, but Rory Cochran wanted out of CSI:Miami. Had he renewed, there would not have been a shakeup. I do admit him leaving was a good thing because I always thought he was a bit wooden on the show and it is much better now.
We are seeing less and less of Grissom each episode except for ones that focus mainly on him. Killing off Nick would take yet another player out of it. I say give less airtime to the various lab techs and more to the CSI's so we can see a little more development.

How can you say Miami is better without speedle? The last season was awesome, but the guy who replaced him stinks... I can't even remember his name right now he was so boring. I actually stopped watching because he was so annoying. Agreed about Nick... this show has lost its appeal... starting with last season. It needs to be shaken up.

I'm with Jake, the anti-Speedle is terrible. As far as Las Vegas, I would rather they take out Sara. I don't enjoy her character's arc as much as Nick's. They still have a lot of post traumatic stress stuff they can explore with him if they choose to. Plus, killing Sara would be a good reason to give Grissom something interesting to do. He almost seems to be phoning it in anymore. I wouldn't be against whoever it is that gets killed doing so while they are in a car with the annoying suck-up lab guy. Bring back Diane Mizota and get rid of that guy.

What I've never been able to understand is why do people keep thinking of new character of anti this or 2.0 that. To me if an old character goes away/dies and a new character is introduced, it's exactly what it is, A NEW CHARACTER. Not a replacement but a new character. Unless it's the same character but a different actor, I usually don't have a beef about it.
Anyway, I've never liked Nick as a character so if he dies, I say it's about friggin' time.
I've never felt that Sara's character has been treated right on this show but neither has Catherine's. These people just can't write female characters right if you ask me, but at least Sara's more interesting than Nick with her attitude, drinking problems and Grissom obsession. Nick's a bit too goody two shoes for me.
If you ask me, give the gal detective (who used to be a day shift CSI) and Greg more screen time and kill off Nick. Or if not kill him off, at least give him a way out because it seems they're going that direction anyway.
There was an episode this season where Nick was hellbound in finding the little girl who survived the massacre in her house (the one about pot selling) and I got this feeling that Nick perhaps wants to become a rescue worker rather than someone working with corpses and dead people. Considering what he's been through with the whole being buried alive thing, I'm thinking he could be looking for a change in scenery.

I was all for killing him when he had that brown catepillar on his face. But Nick is the Eff-up, the person that always messes up something or can't figure out what's going on and helps all the charcaters to come together and solve that case.
Sure i guess you can kill him, but he's the eye candy (personally i think warwick is way hotter) Mr. All american good guy. And people who do not interact with the show and let it glaze over them, won't want to see him gone. People are afraid of change.
Yes, they should kill someone
Yes, they should stop referring to catherine's stripping days.
But if wishes were horses then beggars would ride.
(i realize that entire post made little sense sorry for wasting your time.)

That THING on his upper lip was horrible. I couldn't stop staring at it. He deserves to die, just for that. They even made little jokes about it IN the episode. Whose idea was that? The director? His?
He needs to die (in the show).
That girl who came on in CSI:NY is the same girl that played the good girl/bad girl in the previous week's Without a Trace. That was really really disturbing for me.

I can not see how kiling Nick would shake up the show. I have been a fan of the show from the beginning and while Nick has never bothered me, has has never wowed me either.
A possible shakeup would be to have him killed by Electra (oops Sara) and then have her sent to death row with no chance of appeal.

I can't really see killing of Nick I like him. He brings feelings to an episode. Need him to keep Sara a smiling person.
Look how depressed Sara was last season after the team was split and now that she's back working with Nick she seems a happier person again. Just show's what a perfect couple they'd make.
They need to give more air time to Sofia she's an interesting person.

Kill of Nick?! Blasphemy.
Kill off Greg instead. He's only there for comic relief anyway.

since when is does everyone love Greg? I never have and have just considered him pretty much a waste of airtime. I have yet to see what appeal he has. As for Nick; well, I started watching the show because its about forensics (I work in forensics and it was a novelty to actually see it glamourized) and because I've like Billy Peterson way back when he was in "Manhunter." I kept watching because of Nicky. And that will continue to be true no matter how much the powers that be try to shove the non-existent relationship between Grissom and Sara and that complete waste of airtime, Sofia, down the viewers throats. I was one of the many that complained to the network when Moonves fired George Eads and Jorja Fox. I could, personally live without the Sara character and her manufactured angst but losing Nicky would lose me as a viewer completely.
And BTW: the only reason those two actors were written out of the other two series (and honestly, can we really consider the Miami show a CSI spinoff when all it is is the David Caruso (let's chew the scenary) Show) is because both actors wanted to pursue movie rolls. Obviously, niether one of these two learned a thing from David Caruso and his venture into movies.

I am fully aware, and was when I wrote this, that Rory Cochrane and Vanessa Ferlito both asked to be written out of their respective shows. So what? I don't care why they left, but Miami and NY both got better when they did. I still stand by my initial argument, the orginal has just gotten too familiar. I need some change.

well, I think to kill Nick isn't a good way to shake p the show. Sara's dead could it be a good way to shake up. But, it does not ensure the success. Also the comparisons with the previous seasons will become eternal
CSI it's good just like this... well, a few chapters form season six looks like "The CSI X Files", but, I enjoy every episode and all the spin off.

I see Nick death affecting the show ALOT.Look at CSI:Miami how it effected the show after Speed was gone, even if Wolf is good he is still not Speed and could never replace Speed's place.I don't like the way you talk about Nick what so ever, you are totally wrong, changes are not always good and this one would be a disaster. No Nick,CSI would be terrible.I think everyone is a lil' bit angry because after all those seasons they did not kill no one off the show and people love to see drama. So do I but theirs already enough drame without killing one of the most imporant caracter in the show.Just leave the show alone it's great and amazing the way it is right now. It's number 1 on thursday and the number drama. So the show is great the way it is and leave Nick alone.
