I didn't realize this until recently, but ABC will be airing A Charlie Brown Christmas a second time this year on Friday, December 16 at 7 p.m. Central. As far as I know, this is the first time the special has been aired twice in one year, which is good news for all of you who may have missed it when it aired last Tuesday. Watching the special is such a ceremonius event for me that I'm not sure I'll watch it a second time this year. Family members have always offered to buy the special on VHS or DVD for me, knowing how much I love Peanuts in all of its incarnations, but I always kindly refuse. It's important for me to keep A Charlie Brown Christmas within the context of the holiday season. It's a yearly tradition, and I like to keep it as a yearly tradition. My admiration goes much deeper than some kind of fanboy gushing where I have to have own it on DVD and purchase every piece of merchandise that has to do with it (though like Bob I also own the soundtrack and the book). It's the sentiment of A Charlie Brown Christmas that makes me want to keep it stored away like a treasured Christmas ornament, taking it out just once a year to appreciate how amazing it truly is and then storing it away again, knowing that it will still be there waiting for me every year.
