Typically if you miss the first four minutes of an episode of CSI, you manage to miss the dead body that has appeared somewhere, randomly. But last night, that wasn't the case - there wasn't a dead body to contend with in the first four minutes [Toldya, Ryan] Well, at least not yet. It's not too often that a suspect or person involved with a crime on this show gets one over on the team, but Karen Matthews did, at least for a few minutes, when she reported her son, Jesse, missing at a local park. Fortunately, the evidence tended to point in a different direction, leaving Willows and Warrick looking for new clues. We also see Nick come across Kelly Gordon, whose father was behind burying the CSI alive - first he sees her at the crime scene, and then she shows up again at his workplace - that was some strange tension there, perhaps developing into a new plotline down the road. Thankfully, Mr. Stokes has removed the godforsaken moustache from his face, and gone clean. Talk about causing a stir.
The promos for the show and chatter on the boards was that we'd begin to hear a bit more about Grissom's past. We get that this time around when he tells Catherine about the death of his father, which happened when he was nine. It was a curious scene in that they were just discussing the case, and he mentioned him briefly, and as she begins to leave the room, he continued on telling the story, leaving her with that uncomfortable choice of just walking about, or staying to hear what Grissom had to say. It's a tough position to be in, but she stayed the course, and we got to hear about how Grissom's dad died. Coincidence, or is he opening up to his friends on the team?
As far as this case went, I have got to say that I was a bit confused here and there, and hadn't really come up with my own solution on how things would work out. We got a few clues here and there, such as the neighbor to Karen Matthews talking about how he thinks she killed his last dog, and the fact that the jacket Karen gives to the police as having been worn by her son was actually never worn by him. And as far as the solving of the crime goes, seeing that this woman had been so traumatized by the death of her husband in Afghanistan that she actually killed her son to stop him from having to be a military man, and then pretended that he lived there the whole time - for four years - was just out of control. You don't have to wonder why cops hang up their badge & gun after seeing crazy things like this.

I think she had a four-year-old prescription for anti-psychotics in her house. So it's not like she was a mentally balanced woman who was pushed over the edge solely by her husband's death.
I have only seen a few episodes this season, but this episode and "Gum Drops" are some of the best they've done in a long time.
