I am so with you about David Caruso. Not sure what your issue is with him, but he gives me the creeps.

CSI:NY is so much better now that they wrote Vanessa Ferlito out of the script. She really wasn't holding her own against Gary Sinise and the others. Plus, her plastic surgeon did a total hack job to her nose and now it's too small for her face (yes, I am that superficial!). NY seems much darker than the original CSI, which tends to have a bunch of jokes. I have yet to see Gary Sinise's character be anything but serious, but I'm not a die-hard viewer. I like this show, but I think it has too many hokey forensics montages.

I don't think you're missing anything about the characters... so it won't be hard to catch on.

Give it a shot! I'm curious to see what you think of it.

IMHO, csi:miami has the best storylines of the three. that said, i can't stand the show. it's not just david caruso, the whole cast of that show scares me. callie ducane or whatever her name is has to be one of the most annoying people on tv.
i used to watch csi a lot, but it has become kind of like background tv for me now. i tivo them, and watch them when i'm really really bored and there's nothing else on. even then, i fast-forward through most of the filler and end up with about a 15 minute show

The thing about Caruso is that he gets tiring with his one-liners ?a "Well, Delco, that's what we're going to find out", you usually get a move with the sunglasses then the credits... ALWAYS the same stuff. I'm amazed SNL or others did not spoof that enormous gamut of acting talent yet...

CSI: NY has never been a very good show in my opinion. Yes, Gary Sinise is a great actor, but he's wasted on this show. Call me a lefty wingnut, but I also hate the Ronald Reagan Wall of Worship in his office. The cast is also so mismatched. Melina Kanakaredes, the alpha female of the group, is a fine accress but she just doesn't have the chemistry with Sinise that Marg Helgenberger has with William Petersen (or any man on the show!). The rest of the cast, including Hill Harper, are easily forgotten. Anna Belknap has been an interesting addition, but she hasn't meshed all that well with the cast so far. In the end, if you watch CSI: NY occasionally you're doing fine.

The original CSI has one thing that CSI: NY and CSI: Miami don't have -- amazing cast chemistry. I can't convince anyone to watch CSI: NY because -- despite my long standing and sometimes obsessive love of Gary Sinise -- I can't watch the show. I'll tune in for a little eye candy once in a while, but always end up switching back to Law & Order.

After trying all three flavors of CSI, New York is actually the only one I watch. I know I'm in the minority here, to say the least. I liked the darker, earlier versions, but I think this is still the best of the three because the tone is more even... not as jokey as LV, not as preachy as Miami. OK, in all of them you have to concede that real crime scene investigators never actually confront suspects, and suspects never spontaneously confess. You also have to ignore about 75% of the bogus science. But that being said, the locations are (to me) more interesting and more fitting for a crime show, the people seem more real and the interaction is more like real people in a workplace. Ok Gary Sinise's character is the tightest cop since Joe Friday, but it makes sense. He's got a large department to run. Give this show a try because it's a better drama and more balanced.

oh please Come on. you've obviously never watched any episode. That show is great gives Law and OrRder series a run for their money.

There is really no reason to watch this show. I've got it on my "reserve" list, but that's more from lack of good shows than anything else. The lame attempts at humor, non-existant action, badly written scripts (the whole plot is more or less guessable after 10 minutes).. save your energy, don't watch this bad show.

Well, I dislike Miami, but it is really because of Caruso - he is awful in this show. NY I think is a good show - not great, but I think that it is as good as the Las Vegas show. It's not quite so campy but it is still entertaining. Of course they all have the same basic formula - watch the character that barely shows up on the screen about ten minutes in, who seems so unconnected to the crime - that's the likely culprit. But it's better than most of the dreck on TV, and I like it more than Law and Order at this point.

CSI:NY is a good show. While not on par with the other CSI's, it has an entertaining cast. Gary Sinise is a strong lead, he's a good mixture of Grissom and Horatio. I wish they would do a crossover with all three shows, that would be really good. My favorite character of all three shows is Danny, he cracks me up. He reminds me of Speedle on Miami. If this show doesn't make it, they should write in that he is transferring to Las Vegas. He's the reason you should check out CSI:NY.

I'm also a big fan of the original, but oddly enough, I've been watching more of CSI:Miami than the other two. To me, it seems to have more action and feels a little faster paced, but after a while, you start to see how all of the CSI are really a bunch of screw-ups. (Speed was killed because he didn't keep his gun clean?!)

And I think everyone's right about Caruso's de-evolution as an actor. I thought he was great on NYPD Blue during it's first two seasons, but on CSI:Miami, he's resorted to the same "sidestep > steely glare > toss out one-liner > put on sunglasses" routine a few too many times now.

NY, in comparison, seems much darker and disturbing. If I remember correctly, the pilot was particularly gruesome in the crime scene sequences. There's only occasional humor, but I guess it's more about the NY "attitude" and getting the job done. Either way, Gary Sinise is not a guy I'd want to piss off, even if it is just an act. I think Melina Kanakaredes seems out of place because her character often tries to keep things light (which is much needed), but it doesn't fit with the tone of the show overall.

I've broken the three CSI's down like this:

CSI = Sense of humor, well-developed, likeable characters
CSI:Miami - More action and sun, characters that screw up constantly
CSI:NY - Dark and bleak, characters don't smile much but still manage to take care of business

I find CSI: Miami pretty boring, it's a pretty lifeless hatchet job of a script/series as for caruso he's so one dimensional as a actor now. The rest of the cast have no past,no wives, lovers etc, they have no background as they just solve the puzzle and thats it. CSI the original, we know plenty about the characters. CSI:NY well i did watch it once but for a real series you need to watch the original CSI.

I'm a fan of all three, personally. Gives me something to look forward to in the week, and believe me, when dancing through high school like an out of control puppet, that's exactly what I need. We only got New York in Australia this year, and they kind of started with the tenth episode, then went back to the first, but I loved it all the same. The first Miami/New York crossover was a bit iffy because the colour scheme of NY was depressing, but they've done a lot since then.

The acting and the storylines are something I regard as great works. While Vegas has the slightly more bizarre cases, and Miami has the fun and the sun side of the block, New York has it's own brand of murder styles. I don't count myself as dumb, but, you know, it always keeps me guessing and if you enjoy the chase then get on with the watching. And yes, Sinise does rock, even if you watch it just for him, which I don't, I'm just a fan in general, the experience is worthwhile.

I love the idea of the CSI shows in general as they give you a little more info about the details of the processes unlike most of the other shows also it's maybe just me but I feel seeing the sci-fi details they threat you a little more grownup. My favorite is the original for several reasons but it would be interesting CSI:Miami with the cast of CSI, as the scenes are great the color enhanced, buffed sunny images are very nice and entertaining, you feel like you are in a perfect world (yeah right) but Caruso is getting very annoying with his side-standing-sunglass-holding-tilt-headed-one-liners. I think somebody mentioned this earlier it is the same every time. Why he cannot look into their eyes without sunglasses, it's almost like a cowboy movie the hero stand sideways and TILTS his head.. I don't get it. All the other characters pretty much the same.. perfect, designer clothing look.... some crazy science job, no chemistry, the blonde is terrible... They give you an 8x10 photo w/ perfect resolution from 10x10 pixels :))which they got from a security or in another case from a hidden camera which was focused on something else ten feet away. I think the writers could work a little harder... The fact that it is a hit in TV doesn't mean they should sit back and throw anything in front of the audience.

NY has a lot of potential, Sinise is pretty good like in anything he did before but just like Miami needs a good cast or a little more time… we will see….
