Nip/Tuck: Madison Berg

Nip/TuckAdjectives are fun and every time I watch this show, a plethora of those fun descriptive words come to mind. Last night's episode ranged from steamy to appalling to downright hilarious. Every week it gets better and tonight was no exception. Only this show could successfully weave together a porno producer getting her cash and prizes waxed along with a storyline questioning neo-nazism. We last left Sean assisting Christian with a facial transplant surgery, yet still very much against rejoining the practice formerly known as McNamara/Troy. Christian had finally gotten what he wanted out of Kimber: no more porn, sex dolls, or infidelities (threesomes are an exception) in the form of a pre-nup. And Quentin found time to have the hots for Julia when he wasn't snorting coke. So this episode had a lot of questions to answer.

The episode title "Madison Berg" stems from the first patient that Christian and Quentin see. Madison just turned 16 and wants a rhinoplasty. She has quite the nose and the plan is that by fixing it up, then hopefully it will stop alerting people to her Jewishness. That essentially sets the stage for the episodes theme: purity and what is pure?

Christian's wedding is right around the corner and he asks Sean and Matt (yes, he's still alive) to both be his best men at the ceremony. Matt makes a new friend in Ariel, the new girl at school who has some interesting views on the homogenization of society. This thread got a little dark as you're left questioning is she racist or not? She interviews Sean and Christian for a term paper that she has to write and wants to know why they feel comfortable making everyone look "white." Then we find out she has an earring (given to her by daddy) of Thor's hammer, emblazoned with a swastika. Still, doesn't look good but you're not quite sure where she's coming from until you meet daddy. Looks like a nice enough guy until he pats Matt on the back in support of his transvestite bashing incident and commissions him to steal files from his dad's office. It'll be interesting to see how far Matt falls into this family's twisted views.

The rest of the episode dealt with the wedding and the love triangle that is Sean-Julia-Christian. Kimber is worried that her future hubby still has a thing for the former Mrs. McNamara and it becomes clear that he does after 1.) getting all misty-eyed when looking at old photos of Julia, and 2.) seducing her. While putting on his wedding tux. In a church (this is where the steamy adjective came from). Alas, Julia wants none of it - the kiss was a wedding present. But the seed of doubt was already planted and Kimber never even walks down the aisle. She instead opts to leave a farewell note scrawled in lipstick on her mirror. So Christian loses one person he loves but gets another one back when Sean agrees to rejoin the practice he helped start.

Highlight of the episode? Sean accompanies Christian to his wedding cake taste-testing session where we finally learn how and why Christian and Julia had the opportunity to sleep together 17 years ago. Days before their wedding, Sean was invited to a medical conference and wasn't able to go with Julia to their wedding cake tasting - Christian went instead. Too much champagne and pre-wedding jitters led to what Julia finally admitted was "a mistake that everyone else is paying dearly for." Ironically, they're all back to where they were 17 years ago: single and completely unsure of what they all truly want.
