Have you ever watched Paula's Home Cooking on Food Network? I truly think it's possible to gain five pounds by just watching her add butter to everything. She fries meat with butter instead of oil. If anything calls for dairy, it's real cream, baby! I actually used to eat at her Southern restaurant when I lived in Savannah, Georgia for several years, and I hold her personally responsible for at least 10 pounds of weight gain. So, when I saw this on TVGasm, I had a hearty laugh. The editor of that website is on Paula Deen Coronary Watch and has a series of screen grabs from a recent episode where she takes a regular hot dog and turns it into a heart attack by adding cheese and, apparently, lard. It's so nasty! Of course, I will still be using Paula's recipe for mashed potatoes this Thanksgiving. What makes them so good? Guess.Paula Deen's secret ingredient: butter

Don't forget her obsession with mayo. I think I've even seen her scoop out a spoonful of mayo and eat it like ice cream.

Dan, I just gagged a little when I read that comment about the mayo.

Paula is a southern cook and she offers true southern traditions to her cooking. If you want low-fat and tofu, it's not rocket science that you're watching the wrong show.

I just adore this woman! Her liberal use of butter and mayo are what make her so real. I love her recipe for "Maggies Decadent Brownies" (1 full pound of butter)! You go Paula!

Are you kidding. I don't buy into all the stuff about "heart attack waiting to happen"... Paula is a traditional Southern cook. I don't believe for one minute the butter and crisco will cause a heart attack. I believe if you eat TONS of anything, it isn't good for you... Portions People..I am from the south and know many many people that live to be happy, healthy old folks eating the same food... Paula, keep up the GREAT Cooking!!!!

I LOVE Paula and have tried many of her recipes, all of which have been great. You may not eat a pound of butter or a cup of mayo everyday, but every now and then . . . Paula, don't ever change!
