There's an interesting rumor going around the industry: Showtime is interested in getting Arrested Development.
OK, for now it's still in that "rumor" stage, but the SF Chronicle's Tim Goodman answers several questions about the show's FOX demise, and it says that it actually makes sense for Showtime to pick up the show. Nothing for certain yet, but there seems to be at least a faint pulse to the show this week when last week it was flatlining.

Problem with showtime is that you can't just get the one showtime channel on Time Warner Cable it seems, you need to get the entire showtime package it seems.

I dont' currently subscribe to showtime but I would absolutely if AD was going to be on there. Even if I end of paying nearly $3.00 an episode (if I only get Showtime for AD then I am paying per episode). Please, please, please pick up this show. Plus imagine how great the show would be with the actual curse words...ha ha! I can see it now, "I am Michael &%$#*! Bluth".

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!
ok, now that that is out of the way...
h=i have to disagree about the swearing if it moved to Showtime. I love the edited swearing. I think on a show like AD it works out better with the beeps (and the fact that the characters hide their mouths when they swear). For example...remember when Gob was giving the Bluth Company employees his sexual harrassment speech? I dont think it would have been as funny witht he beeped words audible...they also wouldn';t be able to do the swearing jokes where you are not sure what exactly was said.
Here's hoping for Showtime!!!

I wrote the same thing on my blog:
Rumors this early are very encouraging. And Showtime would mean no commercials. But if Showtime in fact picks it up, I'm hoping one thing doesn't change: the bleeping. Just because they can use swear words doesn't mean they should. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against obscenities on TV; quite the contrary, I think when used well, swear words heighten the comedy on a show like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and the drama on "The Sopranos." But part of the brilliance of "AD" on Fox was evading the censors by using the bleeps and pixelation (especially on Buster's stub), to the point that last week's narration even included "I can't believe we had to bleep that!" Hopefully that won't change.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but Andy over at waxy.org has a link to a clip from the blooper reel from the Season 2 disc set of AD.
It's a rant by David Cross, and it's genius.

Lucille: "Michael, I need to talk to you."
Michael: "Hang on a second, Mom. Gob, you have to get rid of the 'Seaward'."
Lucille: "I will leave...when I'm good and ready."
*blink*
Utter genius.

I agree with not using the real profanity. This show is so unbelievably clever at presenting the some of the raunchiest material on TV in a way that not everyone catches. That's part of the fun.
Like when MIchael and Lucille Bluth are talking about the family cabin and he suggests she take her boy friend up there for a romantic weekend.
Lucille: "Who'd want to go into that musty old clap-trap"
Pause. Shot of Michael.
Pause. Shot of Lucille.
Pause. Back to Michael.
Michael: "Oh, yes. The *cabin.*"
Very dirty. Very funny. But not a dirty word to be seen.

I love this show and would follow it anywhere, even if I have to pay extra to watch it. I do hope that Showtime picks it up! I don't think they could lose- DVD sales should more than make up the amount of money spent on production costs. And they will get the (supposedly) 4 million die-hard fans to subscribe. I think there are more fans than that, but according to the all-important Nielsen ratings...

FINALLY some good news. You'd think FOX would have the courtesy to at least show a commercial telling you "By the way, A.D. won't be back 'till December. If it weren't for the internet (Being I really only turn the tube on for A.D.) I wouldn't have known what the heck was going on. I WOULD PAY FOR SHOWTIME (or any other network) just to see this show. FOX is REALLY blowing it on this. And, as far as I can tell, polarizing an intelligent group of loyal fans by leaving them in the dark. Beancounters.
P.S. I also agree with censoring the language. It adds too the gag.

FOX certainly no longer deserves this very clever show. I hope that they feel the pain of losing such a great show. I plan on not watching FOX until December 5th and I hope that others do the same. They really only have one show on worth watching and they cannot pick a time to put it on. It's basically crappy. I hate to think of people not being able to watch it because of FOX's inability to see the show is a hoot! The censoring is fine because it is somewhat humorous and adds to the wit.

Giddy as this news makes me, the sad truth is that if AD goes to Showtime, the ratings will likely be even worse. If people won't watch it for free, they sure as heck won't watch it if they have to pay for it.
OTOH, that's just my negativity talking. If it meant getting another season's worth of the show, well, who cares about the ratings?! :)
P.S. I've been a basic-cable subscriber forever, but I'll pony up for Showtime if AD is in the equation.

I said i would never pay for showtime again after it cancelled one of the most well written show i've seen on tv -- Dead Like Me -- to make room for some of the other half-a55ed HBO series wannabee's.
This is the one thing Showtime could do to make me even more infuriated with them - pick up AD - make me shell out a few bucks for it - then cancel it.
I'll just hope that a regular channel pickes it up - or have to settle with buying the dvds of them well after everyone else has seen them.

I found this article while Google-searching to figure out why AD was pulled from my TiVo "To Do" list.
I'd gladly subscribe to Showtime to see Arrested Development. After all, Curb Your Enthusiasm is the only reason I pay for HBO. I don't mind paying for quality entertainment.
Showtime, are you listening?

OK, so who is charge of starting the petition to Showtime guaranteeing at least 1 Million new subscribers in the event AD is picked up?

I created a petition to encourage Showtime to pick-up Arrested Development. This doesn't replace any other online petitions floating around, but I this one targeting Showtime in particular may be worthile:
