Maybe the viewers didn't like Dan Rather, after all. New CBS News president Sean McManus has asked Bob Schieffer to stay as anchor of the CBS Evening News for "a little while longer" while the news division tries to figure out how to revamp the third-place broadcast.It's a mutual admiration society over there at CBS; Schieffer has been enjoying the work as well, especially the fact that he's showcasing young reporters such as Lara Logan and Trish Regan (funny, the article didn't mention any young male reporters). Viewers like it, too; viewership of the newscast has gone up 3.1 percent compared to the same period one year ago, when Gunga Dan Rather was still the anchor.

Bob Schieffer's makes a great anchor. I'm glad their keeping him around. I hope they make him permanant anchor. He's no spring chicken but he comes across like a real person. Besides, the target audience is the older set. Just look at the ads they run during the evening news.
