I'm not sure why the episodes of Surface don't have titles, but if they did, this one would probably be called "On The Run." Everybody's running from something in this episode. Miles and Phil have Nim and they're running from the cops because Nim shocked a wildlife guy. They're now out and out criminals (Nim shocked a wildlife guy, they steal a car, etc) and not just two wacky kids hiding a pet alien. Laura and Rich are on the run too, trying to hide from the bad guys out to steal the info Cirko had.
This episode also had what is quite possibly the best scene of any TV show on any network this year. All I can say is "wow."
I'm not even sure why Miles decides to release the monster into the ocean again. Well, I guess I can, because he's probably not aware that they grow up to be big bad monsters, but when he let Nim go, all I could think about was, this monster is going to go out into the ocean and grow and grow and grow, and in about a year he's going to be gigantic like the other monsters we've seen causing havoc around the globe. Either that or the monster will grow up, and when he and his friends are attacking people on land, he's going to recognize Miles and remember all the good times they had in the supermarket and the pool and running around, and he'll help the humans battle the monsters. This would happen next year some time. Later if the show lasts several seasons, of course.
So Miles and Phil are caught by the cops, Nim is let loose into the ocean, and a new shadowy head bad guy is introduced. We only hear his voice and see him talking to Lee in a greenhouse, saying a lot of mysterious things, his face shrouded by a floppy hat as he putters around with his weird plants and flowers. Not really sure why they're hiding his face, unless he is someone we've seen on the show before (which I doubt). Maybe it's someone really famous playing the part?
OK, back to that great scene I mentioned above. About about 20-25 minutes into the show, Laura and Rich need a place to hide, so Lake Bell does the only thing she can: she strips down to her underwear and swims out to Jackson's boat to ask him to hide them out. I could sit here and describe the whole scene in incredible detail, but I won't, for obvious reasons. Let's just say it made me really happy, even though I had just come back from the dentist.
You know why I love this show? It seems to reinvent itself every week or two. It's driving along like a movie or a really long miniseries, with plot changes and things happening to the characters you don't expect and developments that hold your interest. It's smart, it's mysterious, it's a little magical and romantic, and it has big monsters.
Oh, and Lake Bell. It has Lake Bell.

Here I thought you were going to talk about the plane crashing and then breaking through the clouds as it plunges towards a school of giant sea monster swimming in the ocean.
But yeah the superhot genius striptease was a very nice bonus.

Sorry, Bob. I was so overwhelmed by the sheer dumbness of that scene -- slathering chainsaw oil on her chest in order to keep herself warm as she swims? -- that I overlooked it for what it was: a gratuitous cleavage shot.
I posted my review on Divester (http://www.divester.com/2005/11/08/surface-episode-7/).

I love this show! I'm very surprised that it has more bad reviews than good. It's so different from the usual prime time shows. (I think Invasion is kind of boring too. They don't show the aliens enough.) The sea monster Nim is so cute and it would be great if they turn out to be smart and able to communicate with humans. I also got tired of "Lost" taking so long to tell the story, so I quit watching it. Even Desperate Housewives" is getting boring.
