The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XVI

bart_skeletonSo, to inflate my own ego, I'm going to go ahead and pretend that that whole opening sequence about the absurdity of airing a "Halloween Special" after Halloween and how boring baseball is anymore was done by Fox because of what I've written. Kang and Kodos went to Earth to invade, but unfortunately baseball was still going on. They use an "Accele-Ray" to speed up everything, but they crank it up, tearing a hole in "existence" and suck everything up to and including God into it. It's also the only thing that could cause The Cubs to win. Ha! Great stuff. On with the show!

 B.I. Bartificial Intelligence:
A pretty good take-off of the much under-appreciated A.I. by Steven Spielberg from a couple of years ago. After Bart falls into a coma from pulling his "stupidest stunt ever", his family replaces him with a new robotic son. Some of my favorite parts were when Bart hit the ground saying "Cowa-" then woke up from his coma screaming "-bunga" and, even though you could see it coming from a mile away, when Homer was giving the speech about "keep us in your memory banks" and they zoomed into the car and he was talking to Bart, not the robot. Had it's moments, but nothing classical.

Survival of the Fattest:
This may be one of the funniest "Treehouse of Horror" segments that's aired in a long time. At the very least, this decade. Mr. Burns invites all the guys from Springfield to his estate for a "hunting trip". Little do they know, they, are the game. With an airing on Fox and special guest commentator Terry Bradshaw, the hunt is on! Every one of the characters had a hilarious death scene, and while there wasn't much to this one besides seeing how everyone died, it was worth it. Heck, hearing Apu scream "Help me Jesus" was worth it.

I've grown a costume on your face:
Seeing the Mayor of Springfield dressed as Mayor McCheese was great. The rest of  everyone's costumes were really funny too, but this segment seemed to fall flat for me. After a costume contest, an insulted witch decides to turn everyone in Springfield into whatever costume they're wearing. We only got a brief taste of everyone as their costumed counterparts before Maggie, dressed as a witch, and now, a real witch, transforms them all. The problem was half the town wanted to stay the way they were, and half wanted to be changed back, so Maggie found the middle ground and turned everyone into pacifiers.

Good episode. The Simpsons, even at their worst, are almost always fantastic. This was by no means their worst either. As I said earlier, this is probably the best "Treehouse of Horror" of the past couple of years. Let me know what you think.
