Oh, I knew this was going to happen after I turned on Newsnight With Aaron Brown a few weeks ago and saw that it was suddenly Newsnight With Anderson Cooper and Aaron Brown Is Still On It, Kinda.
Cooper takes over the show on Monday. What's going into the 7pm slot formerly held by Cooper's 360? More Wolf Blitzer and his The Situation Room, which is slowly taking over the entire schedule.

The only person that I liked to watch on CNN and now he is gone ? Can't stand that Cooper guy. From now on it is 100 % FOX News in this household. Hopefully Aaron ends up there !

Aaron was the reason I watched CNN, especially since the death of Peter Jennings, the only other anchor I watched. I like Anderson, but not nearly enough that I wanted him to become the main anchor. The only good that can come of this is if Brown returns to ABC to anchor World News Tonight.

I am sad to see Aaron Brown leave CNN - he was so informative in all events and you could really see his emotion. I'm hopeful that he'll turn up back at ABC to take Peter Jennings place. He is really the only one that could ever replace Peter Jennings.
Good luck to you Aaron - hope to see you soon.

I have just gone from desolation to hope--is it possible that Aaron Brown will go to ABC? I might just start watching network news again. Otherwise, it's off to MSNBC. Christianne Amanpour will probably be next--guess they're too smart for ....what's his name? the new President Joe Klein...what a wuss.

Dear Mr. Brown,
Unlike Larry Brown, I have never had the opportunity to have lunch with you, but I would loved too! Your kind and more importantly, thoughtful. I would crawl into bed and wait for you to put together all the news that was necessary for discussion and debate. Since you've shared your time with Anderson, the quality and time spent on really indepth and more intellectual pursuit went to the wayside. Your thought, and critical assessment will be missed.
Thank you,
Dore Newell

Now that Aaron Brown is gone, I may wander away from CNN's coverage, too. There must be more to the story than has been told. It was obvious from watching Brown and Anderson together lately that Anderson was moving in. Why? He was greeat covering hurricanes, but news is more than one action story. HMMM. ABC would be a good spot for Aaronn to show up.

The weather tomorrow in Chicago is BLEAK!
I can't believe the shortsighted, misguided move CNN made by firing Aaron Brown. "No room for him in the lineup"? It's absurd for such a distinguished journalist to be cast out in a "zero sum game" of good looks and the TV Katrina drama. This isn't to knock Mr. Cooper. His talents were ill-served with the awkward and mostly trivial 360 show. Now he's suddenly the darling. Don't you get it? We were all moved by his Katrina presence and performance. But this moment of glory does not make up for the gravitas and experience of Mr. Brown.
Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise for Aaron Brown. Why work for people who instead of lauding Brown's journalistic abilities make the ridiculous characterization of him as having a "distinctive storytelling style". Excuse me. It's called JOURNALISM.
Shame. Shame. Shame.

come on guys. just because someone talks slowly and stutters (and makes faces and shakes his head) while asking questions .. does not mean he is good. I think Aaron lacked depth and it finally caught up with him. BTW, cooper and blitzer also are not that deep. Clearly, CNN is going for more flash but Aaron was not that deep guys.

I guess Aaron with his very in-depth interviews and deep thinking proved too classy for his boss. Shame on Jon Klein for casting out class for flash.

I'm right in there with the rest of you. Other than Larry King, Aaron's program was about the only other one I truly enjoyed. Everything about him is appealing; including his style of delivery and his presence in general. Anderson is okay, but I don't plan to spend a lot of time with him by any means. CNN has really stumbled a lot recently. As they make more and more changes, it's easy to see why they've lost ground with the viewing public. I'm going to do my best to find out where Aaron lands so I can enjoy him again after he leaves CNN. I agree with the comment that there is probably much more going on behind the scenes that we'll ever know about.

I will really miss Aaron Brown. Although he is by me
considered a liberal newcaster--he was always fair to
the other side. People like Aaron are few & far between. Maybe he will show up on Nightline? hope so!

I've watched Aaron since he was the local anchor at KING and KIRO in Seattle. He was, to me, the logical successor to Linda Ellerbee, back when she used to kick her cowboy boots up on the anchor desk, and let us know how she REALLY felt. I missed Linda, then Aaron came along, and all was well. It was time to "think" about the news again rather than sit and ingest automaton reporting.
Liberal, schmiberal. He was fun watch. He got hell for it in Seattle, was always being lambasted for having a"smirk", but what it really was , he could get what he felt about a story across by way of a quirk (smirk) in the lips, or a tilt of the head. He, after Peter Jennings, was the most cerebral and honestly emotional of all the anchors. As far as Anderson, from the moment I watched his little rant live, it felt like Cooper pulled his little Katrina stunts to get noticed, not because he felt it per se.
Brown by comparison, reported 9/11 with all the insight and steadiness he had, while, like Jennings, showing us his confusion, and fear, and pain, and sharing with us that we weren't alone in those feelings. It was honest, he didn't do it to gain position, he didn't do it in a calculated way. He just hung tough, gave us what we needed, and provided a rock when we needed an "anchor", in BOTH senses of the word. The epitome of a true journalist.
He'll be missed. I hope to see him soon.
