I do like this program an awful lot, but with this week's episode, I'm starting to think the medical aspect of the show has not only jumped the shark – it's landed in the Ally McBeal Garden of Full-on Absurdity. When we last saw Meredith Grey, she was downing shots to ease her anxiety over Dr. McDreamy's indecision over his divorce. Soon the whole crew is forced to come back to the hospital to deal with the survivors of a massive train wreck. Izzie and Addison (that's Mrs. McDreamy to you) must deal with a badly-burned pregnant woman; Cristina has to run around collecting severed limbs; and most of the others are put to work ruminating on how to save a man and a woman who have been impaled by the same metal pole. I was actually relieved when the impaled gal, whose injuries, we were told, were much more serious than that of her male companion, was allowed to die; if they had gone and given her a last-second reprieve, I would have been pissed. But I can only take so much slapstick – I mean, Cristina running around with the wrong leg? And even if they tested her blood alcohol, would they really have allowed Meredith to go virtually straight from shot-downing into serious pole removal surgery? Especially after that episode last season with the drunk anaesthesiologist? It doesn't make much sense.
But on to the romance. Cristina and Burke are really together – to the point where she's referring to him as her boyfriend – and it's great. Not much new on the Alex and Izzie front, although both are dealing with interesting subplots of their own, with Izzie possibly being mentored by Mrs. McDreamy, and Alex (who, until recently, has been by far the least interesting character on this show) possibly realising that he's not cut out to be a doctor. Derek and Meredith? No dice. He's not only not signing the divorce papers, but he and Addison went off arm in arm at episode's end. But how long do you think THAT'S going to last?

Something about there was no room to get the saw in there.
I was thinking something similar about getting a small hacksaw in there, but the action of a hack saw would have probably moved the bar too much...
But then you have to ask, if it was so unstable, how did they get them out of the wreckage in the first place?
Never mind, it's popcorn for the brain anyway :)

I agree with Rick (see above). As a surgical resident, watching this show is absolutely hilarious. Grey's Anatomy is like a satyre of surgical residency. It has nothing to do with our day-to-day work. Why the hell is there a boatload of interns and one single resident? I agree, if you want an accurate look on medical care, watch Scrubs instead.

I liked the episode it was nice and sad but the medical side was idiotic.
Just cut the pole in between them and work on each nice and slow, they cut the pole after removing the hot girl.

When McDreamy (aka McSteamy) said, "She's my wife," I said "Good for you!" I was afraid this ep would venture into "ER" territory, and although it didn't (entirely), I thought the whole discussion about heaven bordered on maudlin. Not one of my favorite episodes, that's for sure.

You know what else bothered me? I mean screaming at the TV bothered me? Why the hell didn't they get the girl a tape recorder/cell phone/whatever to record messages for Danny/family/friends/etc?
It was obvious they had plenty of time to do so. Why in the world would anyone trust a doctor with a message when they had time to record something?

Maybe, none of you have been cheated on, but as a married woman it sucks! I wish McDreamy kicked Addison to the curb. After he said "She's my wife.", Meredith should have said, "We'll let's hope this time she acts like one!"

I guess I'm a whore for high drama because I loved the medical aspect of this episode -- I mean it is a medically-themed show based in a hospital. That being said, the whole crying scene in the elevator was WAY too much. I did like that Dr. McDreamy chose his wife. No matter what you think of Mrs. McDreamy they are married and should at least attempt a reconciliation. I also thought Meredith was written too pathetic -- even more so than last week. She needs to move on -- pick George, pick George; he'll treat you right.

This is no longer a medical show. Jumped the shark re: medicine last night. The hospital portion gets stupider every week, and I'm a sugeon who was a resident for 7 years. I was waiting for someone to point out to cut the pole in half between them. I'd have to say that the show with the most medical accuracy, both from patient facts and the awesome Dr. Cox, is Scrubs. I bet the janitor in Scrubs would have known to cut the pole in half.
