The new season of South Park kicked off last night, and though I'm not sure we'll cover the show every week, I figured I'd give it a little justice this once. Like many past episodes, this one poked fun at a current event, namely, Hurricane Katrina. Here's the gist of the episode. Stan and Cartman take off in some guy's boat (Cartman lies that it's his uncle's boat) and crash it into a HUGE beaver dam. The dam catches on fire and explodes, causing the town of Beaverton to be completely flooded. Cartman tells Stan to keep his mouth shut about what happened, but of course we all know how that will end ("I learned something today...").
As the residents of Beaverton await help ("Why won't anyone come save us?!"), everyone in South Park and the rest of the country is pointing fingers at who or what's to blame for the catastrophe: Bush, FEMA, Global Warming, Communists, Chinese radicals, Cartman, and Al Queda. Oh yeah, and of course, Crab People ("Craaaab People. Craaaab People.")
Most of the episode has everyone thinking that global warming is to blame, spoofing scenes out of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow". I didn't see the movie so I don't get all of the references, but I understood the basic idea. I definitely caught the reference to a scene seen in trailers, as a mass of people run from the unseen freezing cold wave, blocking it from hitting them by a simple closed door.
Later on, the boys try to escape Beaverton after trying to save some of the residents themselves. There's a funny scene with Cartman and Kyle that's right out of many good guy/bad guy action movies, as Cartman holds Kyle at gunpoint, demanding his "Jew gold" that he knows all Jews carry around their necks in a little bag. The show ends with Stan confessing to the crime ("I blew up the dam."), only to have another movie cliché sequence of South Park residents fessing up as well ("I blew up the dam." "I blew up the dam.").
It's obvious that I'm no huge South Park aficionado, but I definitely do enjoy the show. I mostly like to watch it for Cartman's scenes. Mostly.

I was looking forward to the new "season" of South park.
amazing what passes for a season these days. 8, 10 12 episodes?
lame.
this episode was, in my opinion the worst episode ever from trey and matt.
just not funny. I am sad. I love south park.
I think the glory days are way over for the show...

Actually the next 8-9 episodes are the 2nd part of season 9. They always break their seasons up into halves. The first part starting in April/May and the second part starting Oct/Nov. For instance this episode number is 908.

Great episdoe, the jew gold bit was UNBELIEVABLE and the reaction to the people in beverton not getting helped is pretty funny, it wasn't their best work, but the topical ones have to be done quick so i'm not suprised, still great!

It was a good episode but the best part was that I actually got some amusement in return for the time I spent watching The Day After Tomorrow.
