Everybody Hates Chris: Everybody Hates Sausage

everybody hates chrisIn last night's episode, Chris learns that being the only black kid at his school not only invites racism, but also a kind of bizarre fascination.

In the first episode, Chris is beaten up by the school bully. However, rumors begin to spread that Chris himself did the actual beating, which is odd since the whole school seemed to witness it. Chris finds that even some teachers are afraid of him, and the principal can't seem to wrap his mind around the concept that Chris wasn't born a crack baby. All racism is borne of ignorance, and Chris hilariously shows just how warped everyone's perceptions of him become based only on the fact that he's black. Nevermind that he stands a foot shorter than everyone else. He's black, and the last thing you want to do is make him angry.

Meanwhile, Chris' mom quits her job. She justifies this, as she does every other job she quits, by stating that her man already works two jobs. A montage (Chris does love a good montage) shows her quitting several jobs for trivial reasons simply because she can. The lack of money means there's no meat available, but dad strikes a deal with the meat man, a plan that backfires and results in the family eating nothing but sausage three meals a day for several weeks.

Chris still hasn't lost any of the energy it showed in the first few episodes, but now it seems to be falling into a kind of rhythm, which is nice. The gags still work and there are moments where I laugh so loud I'm surprised my neighbors down the hall don't come banging on my door to tell me to shut up.
