Showbiz is littered with people whose onscreen persona doesn't always match their public lives. Of course, that's why they call it "acting" isn't it? I have never seen the series 7th Heaven because I have a fear of being bored to death, but I have seen actor Stephen Collins (who plays the father on the show) on Celebrity Poker Showdown, and darned if he doesn't seem like the kind of fellow who would invite you in for a warm cup of cocoa and some graham crackers. Despite my jab at the show earlier, it has proven that there is an audience for family drama, and the show has already been on longer than The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie (both of which I watched growing up, though mostly in syndication). The crazy thing about Collins is that he feels a responsibility to maintain an air of "humility" even off screen. You really can't fault a guy for that.

I think we all really know Stephen Collins as the fourth captain of the Enterprise. Until he let a satellite absorb him or something.

Actually, he's not *too* decent. I mean he does write "psychosexual thrillers" and has been doing so for many years:

I don't understand this post at all. It seems a bit naive to assume that an actor is a certain way because of an appearance on a poker show on TV. I mean, yes, on 7th heaven he is acting, but on poker showdown, why would you assume that's the real guy? After all, he is a trained actor, he's well aware he's on national TV, he has a show to sell so he's not going to step too far out of that character in public view. And, lest we forget, poker is a game all about putting on a fake face, isn't it? That's how you win at poker. Using psychology and acting (or pure dumb luck).
I'm not saying he's not a great guy - I'm just saying that one can't make assumptions about people from TV appearances, where everyone is putting on a fake face anyway. That's just what people do on-camera.
